Aaron leaned against a tree. An oak tree. He was at peace. Not as at peace as he would be in his greenhouses, but everyone needed a break sometimes. He pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it. He took a slow drag, savoring the flavor and burn before exhaling. He didn't smoke very often, he believed the nicotine in the cigarettes interfered with his plants, but he did enjoy the occasional one every now and then.
Idly he thought of his family back home as he flicked some of the ashes of the tip. They just didn't get him and he feared for the future generations of Winston's, obsessed with money and power. He took another slow pull, releasing the exhale a little quicker this time and watching as the smoke curled up in front of him. Maybe he should have poisoned Lucien. Maybe he should have taken up the mantle. Maybe...
Maybe he was being ridiculous.
He flicked more ashes of his cigarette. Everyone had the right to life and freedom. That's why he came to America. Land of the Free right? He snorted. From what he'd seen, both the magical community and muggle had been obsessed with the immigration and drug and alcohol control. He sighed. At least he was free to garden. And love... or something like that.

Oh god today was way too long and he needed a smoke break and bad. He wander down to the lake and he ran a hand through his hair totally messing it up but he didn't care. He left his jacket in his offer so here he was in just a white shirt that he had already cleaned the blood off of and dark pants that he rubbed his hand on to clean them off. Gawain sighed as he finally found a tree to lean against. How many more days until his debt was clear? How much longer did he have to keep doing this things?
He gently placed the cigarette between his lips and then moved to grab his matches but they wee gone. Fucking of fucking course they were gone. That was just his fucking awesome luck. But lucky for him a fellow teacher was out and down by the lake also smoking and it was one he fucking liked to thank god for that.
"Hey Aaron." He called out walking over to him. "Got a light?"

Aaron lifted his head from his cigarette and gave a small tentative smile. He didn't really have a lighter. He'd been sheltered his whole life; anything to do with muggles had been banned. Of course that had ended the moment he had left his parents' home. He still hadn't really done the whole lighter thing, finding a subtle flick of his wand quicker and easier for him to control.
"Sorry, 'fraid I don't." He gave a sheepish smile. He waved his wand. "Call it old fashioned or ludicrous, but I find magic to be a little more convenient." He winced a little at his words, hoping he didn't come off as arrogant. "At least when it comes to fire." He ran a hand through his hair and took another drag on his own cigarette. "How this year's crop of Defense students growing?" He asked with a grin.

"Well Magic it is then. And it's alright, just sometimes like to do things the old muggle way." There was just something about doing it the muggle way that just brought him back to a simpler time. Being home with his father and mother, watching his father smoke while his mother would knit for the family. He wasn't worried about any debt, or you know ay fuckd up crime family. He sighed and exhaled before taking a long drag. Yeah he really fucking needed this right now and hey at least he had some decent fucking company too.
"They are alright." He shugged some and took another drag of his smoke. "Nothing speical really. Same old same old. Those that were good last year are still good, those that weren't still aren't. DADA is one of those things that you have or you don't but the same could be said about any subject." Gawain looked over at Arron and gave a small smile. "Hows the greenhouse treating you this year?"

Aaron laughed. "Can't say I know what the feeling is like." He mused. "But there are a few things muggles do better." Ha, if Lucien ever heard him say that, he'd be cut from the family line faster than he could say 'mimbulus mimbletonia'. And on a good day he could say it very, very quickly. He shook his head and took another deep inhale from his cigarette. The air was still warm, and he had plenty of time to deal with getting the plants ready for winter. He leaned against the oak and watched the smoke twirl up into the air.
"Can't really say I know much about the students yet myself." He added with a shake of his head. The students he'd met, and it had been few, had been a decent sort. Sad, and anxious, maybe. Confused, definitely. But good kids deep down. They'd just been born products of circumstance, and he knew all about circumstance. Which was why he was so determined to help the flower into their full potential.
At the mention of the greenhouses Aaron's smile brightened. "Oh, everything has been marvellous! Cascade's plethora of plants and fungi match Hogwarts in variety. I haven't seen them all yet, you see. But I'm certainly interested in finding out more! Explore every inch of the grounds if I have to."
