The clock struck nine, the bell in the school ringing much to the delight of all the students. Normally nine O'clock spelt curfew for all, many wandering back to their dorms and common rooms for sleeping or studying. Maybe a brave few (or just those that are clinically insane) would stay down by the lake, staring up at the stars or just sleeping.
But tonight was a special night for all, and the reason all of the students where breaking curfew; Halloween. The doors to the spirit world were open, ghost roam the halls which are decorated to look like a graveyard, all leading into the dining hall. The tables where pushed aside to make room for a dance floor, food and drinks laid out for all to partake in. Of course everything is decorated, and the energy in the air is a odd mix of somber excitement. The last few weeks have been dark and heavy but tonight it is all just about having fun and for that reason many if not all of the students are thankful it's Halloween.
Right now the hall is empty and still, waiting for the first students to arrive, knowing full well that on Halloween anything can happen. The time to celebrate is now as the few few students walk into the dining hall.

With everyone running around the place in a mad panic trying to get ready for the party, Elsie thought that things almost seemed like they were back to normal. Maybe there wouldn't be the confrontation that everyone had been whispering about, maybe everything could return to how it had seemed for those few precious days before everything had fallen apart. Not for Gawain it couldn't, though, nor Maureen or Pietro or Nixie or Serafina. Not for anyone who had been close to any of them. She did her best to shake the thought from her mind, it was not one for tonight. Now things could be okay, even if they were going to go back to chaos later.
Even better than that, her mother had clearly received her letter in time, because one of her favourite dresses had arrived just in time for the party. Though she had a habit of often appearing to be the least girly person in the school, what with her hours poured into herbology and CoMC, she still had a soft spot for beautiful things of any kind. In her mind, if you didn't, you missed the point of everything. It took her a surprisingly short amount of time to change into the dress and make sure that everything was exactly how she wanted it, made shorter by the fact that Elsie was a woman with a mission. Time was of the essence, and all that stuff. She took one last look at herself in the mirror before hurrying from the Fuego dorms a good half hour before anyone else would even think about doing so, a piece of paper in one hand, and a box in the other.
It didn't take her long at all to get from her dorm to outside the entrance of the Aqua dorms, and she quickly scribbled at note on it for Mary. She'd had to experiment with this for some time, but a clever reversal of accio sent the scrap of paper flying off to find her friend. That done, Elsie hovered impatiently outside the door, not wanting to sit or do anything that might ruin the outfit.Elsie in her very pretty dress

Standing in front of her dorm mirror, Hallie carefully glided on red lipstick slowly onto her mouth, then rubbed her lips together after finishing. After setting the container down, she sighed and stepped back to examine the finished product-which happened to be herself in a long, white, sparkly-flapper dress complete with a pair of moderately tall white pumps. Her hair was brilliantly red as usual, and she decided that, for the night, it would be tied back into a long, flowy side braid that tickled against her exposed skin. Tonight had been anticipated for nearly two weeks. With Halloween finally upon the school, and after everything terrible that seemed to be happening lately, she was ready to have a bit of fun and relax a little bit. After all, it wasn't every day that she was able to catch up with her friends and loved ones.
With another sigh and quick glance in the mirror, Hallie hastily grabbed at her wand, pointed it at the top of her head, and conjured a bright, brilliant halo around herself before smiling a bit. Her costume wasn't much, but she hoped that she portrayed an angel in the most subtle of ways. A hand reached for an ivory colored clutch before she then began her dissent through the Aer Common Room, and towards the grand staircase of the school. Once she had reached the top step, she hesitated a bit, her eyes catching sight of a few wandering students below her, and that was when she began to nibble on her own lip. Because it was a formal occasion, Aedan had insisted on meeting before the events started, and being the good little girl that she was, she had agreed to the idea without any hesitation. After all, it wouldn't have looked good for him to show up to the dance without a date, now would it?
Shaking her head of her thoughts, she kept a hand on the staircase, and another on her clutch as her gaze turned around the room, searching for Aedan, who, she suspected, would be looking cool and crisp and handsome as ever.

Well, at least she'd gotten her hair to look pretty, to hang in soft curls around her face, framing it nicely. So there was that. Was that enough to distract from the fact that the only clothes she had were her pajamas and her one too-small uniform?
Mary heaved a sigh and sat down on her bed, looking at her wand as it twirled prettily, but pointlessly, between her fingers. She wouldn't even have considered going to this party, if not for Elsie. She hadn't wanted to disappoint her friend, after all! Not her very special, dare-she-even-say-it best friend! This was what friends were supposed to do, wasn't it? Go to parties together and talk to people and laugh over silly jokes and drink punch from tiny little glasses?
But ... the other girls in her dorm looked so ... glamorous. They wore gorgeous dresses and had make-up on their faces and, well, for the girl who already felt like a plain Jane to be attending the party in her school uniform? She just ... she didn't want it to matter, but somehow it did. It really, really did.
Strangely enough, a piece of paper came slipping under the door and zoomed toward her. She didn't quite realize what was happening until it was too late, so it ended up colliding with her midriff and falling down into her lap. What ... what on earth was this?
It was Elsie, and she was early, and Mary felt a strange heaviness in her gut. But she wasn't ready! But ... it wasn't as though she would be getting any more ready, and ... of course Elsie would look amazing, but ...
With a nervous sigh, she stood up and made her way to the Aqua House entrance. She didn't want Elsie's outfit to make her feel something about herself because that was nonsensical and selfish and wrong, but ... how could she not? Elsie looked marvelous.
Mary offered a shy, self-effacing grin. "Wow, Elsie!" she offered. "You look beautiful!"

Almost no time at all was wasted on her own dress, Elsie had worn it enough times that she was very aware of how well it suited her. Even if Mary saying it was somehow nicer than it coming from most people. "Never mind me, not when your fairy godmother has arrived. Come on!" She hooked her free arm with Mary's and pulled her friend back into Mary's own dormitory. "Stop me when we get to the right one, okay? I think we might be a little pressed for time." The brief respite, was over, and Elsie was back on the job. Best idea she'd had in weeks, this one, and she didn't even know if the dress would fit yet.
When they got into the room, Elsie had to resist the urge to throw herself onto Mary's bed. That would not be good for either of the dresses. Instead, she sat down on it-she was pretty sure this one was Mary's, not only was it unoccupied, it was also the one that had the most books stacked next to it. There were some protests from Mary's roommates, but Elsie both managed to hush them and ingratiate herself with them by complimenting each on their outfits. Even the hideous, banana-inspired outfit.
"So. Are you going to ask me what's in the box, or am I going to have to do the reveal without a fanfare?" She asked. Maybe it was silly that she seemed more excited about all this than Mary did, but Mary didn't know what was in the box. Having finally stopped moving around like a mad thing, she got a good look at Mary and realised exactly why her friend wasn't chattering away like all of the other girls in the room. She thought she was going in her uniform, with nothing but her fantastically done hair to make her look wonderful. "I did not know you were so good at doing hair, Mary. I should have come to you to get mine done!"

He didn't want to be here. He wanted to go back to his room and lock the door. It was so right though too... that it was Halloween. It was Sera favourite holiday. She said that is was the one day anyone could be anything, the labels fade away and we become anything we want to be. She use to always make him dress up as well even though he wasn't much of a dress up sort of person. She would make him forget everything that was wrong with his life on this one night and they would just be people having fun and now she was gone.
He lean against a wall, watching the students walk in but he wasn't really seeing them. No he was seeing the cutest pair of first years running into the hall all excited because they got to stay up past nine and eat all the candy they want. It was speical and simple and something he would love to have again. Why couldn't he have had that again? Why couldn't he just have his best friend with him tonight?
Oh right because she had to fall in love with Pietro fucking Antonucchi... And he had to get her killed. This was all that man's fault and Theo would never forgive him.
He wonder if Vinayak would come. He knew the boy said that he wasn't sure because they couldn't go together and places like this were just a den of slurs and people looking. He sighed and looked at his feet, well hopefully he could sneak out and just go to bed before anyone notices. Yes he had a job to do here but god he didn't want to... he wanted to be anywhere but here.

The point of the Halloween party wasn't entirely clear to Emyr. Were they supposed to be distracted from the murderous tendencies of the staff? Or to forget the spate of suspicious deaths that had run rampant throughout Camden Hills and Cascade over the last couple of weeks? Maybe they thought that if they threw something elaborate enough, the students would go back to doing normal teenager things like failing tests and making out in dark corners. Though, despite all the disruption, he'd actually passed a Charms test. First try. And he hadn't made out with anyone for ages, so he was at the very least bucking the trend.
He still was doubtful about his chances of enjoying this party. He was banking on either Annabel or Vinayak being there, or else he'd be trapped with no one to even talk to for the entire evening. He hardly wanted to reflect on all the awful things that had happened for the entire night- which, he realised, was the whole point. No one wanted to brood over it all, so the school was giving them an excuse to forget it all, at least for a while. It wasn't supposed to distract them, it was supposed to let them choose to ignore it. Somehow this revelation didn't make him feel any better at all.
Emyr made his way to a chair near the punch table and sat down. Others would be arriving soon, and then he could lose himself in their revelry.Emyr looking dapper

Halloween...
The one day in were the veil between this world and the spirit world is at it thinnest and all manors of spirits come wandering into this world for a little bit of fun. Halloween for her can be alot of confusing chaos but in a good way almost. Spirits do not seem nearly as somber on Halloween as they do the rest of the year, and quite a few find peace. Not to mention it was the one day of the year she got to put on a pretty dress and feel like maybe she could be a princess instead of the odd little freak she was.
It was her mother wedding gown, a bold fashion choice too made by the young bride that exposed shoulder of all things! And she felt like it would be the sort of thing she could get away with only on Halloween. Now that she was all ready she got herself down to the great hall pretty on time. Arne said he would be here but that was when he was all sweet and kind, now she had no idea what personality he would have. But she would be ready to deal with whatever happen. After all this is when the spirit world was the more connected to the real world and anything could happen!

Maureen was excited, but she was also terribly nervous. She had mostly avoided the dining hall since the awful day of her torture, but Aedan had insisted that she get dressed up and come along to the party. It certainly helped that Professor Antonucchi had been tortured now, too. She knew it was unladylike of her to be glad, but she just couldn't help it. Seeing the scar on his face and the one through his hand? Not to mention the O'Brien brand she knew was hidden beneath his clothes?
Priceless. Fucking priceless. So thrilling it made her think swear words.
But, still ... she was nervous. She didn't exactly have any close friends among the students, and the ones she had formerly been friendly with seemed terribly awkward now that she had been attacked. This was likely to be a long night full of people staring at her with pity in their eyes. She hated it. Pity was the worst possible thing.
But, for now, she was just waiting in the foyer with Aedan, clutching his arm as they watched for Hallie to come down the stairs. Aedan, as always, was calm and composed. How did he do it? How was he not just bursting with feelings?
"Hush, Maureen," he offered gently. "It is going to be all right. You are going to have fun, and then you will thank me for making you come here tonight. All right?" He caught sight of Annabel and offered her a respectful nod. He still had plans for her, after all.
"Nobody likes me," Maureen whined in response. "They all think I'm pathetic. ... Oh, look!" That was when she spotted Hallie descending the staircase. "She looks beautiful!"

Halloween was Viola’s favorite day. You could put on a costume and suddenly you’re a different person from a different world for just one day. The escape was bittersweet, but it was an escape nonetheless and Viola never missed the opportunity. It wasn’t just that, no. It was everything. The colors, the atmosphere, the history of the day. It just made sense to celebrate on such a day.
She was a bit upset that it was a bit chaotic in the room while everyone got around for the party. It would be far too dark and busy to make out who her dorm mates transformed into, and she had wished to have seen everyone before hand. However, it no longer mattered much. Now she was adjusting her mask as she entered the dining hall.
With curls piled on top of her head and some fabric from her skirt balled up in her hands to avoid tripping, her eyes wandered in awe at the decorations. Something in her gut, as she looked about in a childish manner, told her that tonight should be memorable, but it wasn’t yet determined if it would good or bad.

Pietro stood with his arms crossed at the head of the dining hall, trying to keep the scowl from his face as he watched the students filter in. Not only had he lost their love by killing Gawain in front of them, but then he had lost some of their fear by missing classes only to return scarred and grieving. God, how could he stand here all night and watch them have fun without Serafina in their midst?
When this whole stupid party had initially been planned, he had looked forward to watching her enjoy herself in what was sure to be an intelligent and creative costume. Afterwards, she would have come blushing to his door and he would have put on some music and danced with her in his apartment. They would have sat drinking wine and whispering sweet nothings and whiling away the nighttime hours in all sorts of sinful pleasures.
Now he just ached. Now he was just empty. So he stood and he watched and he tried not to glower.

Why was he here? It was hot crowded, and the noise. Why was everyone being so noisy here? Let alone after everything that had happened. Is this how Americans treated death? Like it was something to hide from and neglect? He could remember the the way it had been treated in Norway, the great parties held in honor of the deceased. Apparently it went back to the days of old, when the Vikings reigned over his homeland. Those times sounded amazing at times. Sitting in the corner of the dining hall, he watched the others mingle, already beginning to feel the press as more and more students entered the hall.
His eyes watched the entrane though, hoping to see his friend enter, hoping she would be here. Rubbing his hands together, he watched as the girl that had been hurt entered the room. Smiling at her, he gave a slight little wave, Mureen that was her name. She seemed nice enough from his few encounters with her. THe boy that entered next to her though, made him shiver as if a cold icy hand had grabbed his spin. He had heard about what that boy had done to the head boy, and it terrified Arne, as he now seemed to talk amicably with those around him. Arne looked down, picking at the cuff his jacket, it seemed like she wasn't going to come, he didn't blame her though. The number of people, the actual ghosts everywhere, it had to be her worst nightmare.
With a sigh, Arne looked back up, and bit his lip, maybe she was down near the lake. She liked being down there, it was quiet, that was what she had told him. Chewing his lip for a few more moments, Arne stood, and sighed. If Bella was not here, then what was the point of staying, he was too shy to talk to anyone else, besides it was too crowded in here. One last glance, and he chewed his lip before sighing, and making his way for the door, staring at the ground and apologizing to people as he scooted around them.

What was she doing, standing there at the foot of the stairs like a damned idiot? As her eyes scanned around her, Hallie quickly admired the various costumes of her fellow students. One girl had dressed as a gypsy, while another had dressed as a sailor, and yet another girl who had just brushed past her was dressed as a kind of bunny rabbit, if one could call it that. With a sort of amused smirk on her face, she then dropped her eyes back towards the floor of the foyer, where she caught sight of not only Aedan, but a beautifully dressed Maureen by his side.
Hallie shot them a genuine smile in their direction, then descended the stairs as quickly and gracefully as she could; keeping her hand hovering over the railing in case she were to stumble a bit. Once she reached the bottom of the stairs, the smile that had found its way onto her face turned into a grin, and she paced over to Maureen, giving her a light hug.
"Hello there," she greeter warmly, pulling away moments later. "You look ravishing," she told Maureen, then turned to Aedan, complimenting him as well. "As do you."

All right. OK. He could do this. He didn't want to do this, but ... he could. He would. Sure, he would rather be spending the evening locked in Theo's bedroom comforting his boyfriend, but that wasn't an option for Theo.
Theo had made it clear with his words that he didn't have to come ... but he had made it clear with his eyes that he wished he would.
All right. OK. There were some people he knew, some people who didn't look down on him for his skin color. He could talk to them, he could have fun little dances with Mary and Annabel, and then he could casually sidle over to Theo for some conversation. He could do this. He would do this.
He walked into the dining hall, immediately aware of Theo's location leaning against the wall. Could he go over right away, or would that be too obvious? Perhaps it was better to begin talking with people who didn't spark this desperate desire in his gut. Still, though, he couldn't help but make eye contact with his lover. A long gaze, and a smile, and a sort of half-wave.
He had smiled at Annabel as he walked through the foyer, but she seemed to be waiting for someone and he didn't want to get in the way of anything. Now that he was in the dining hall proper, though, he saw two people he wouldn't mind talking to. Emyr and Viola. Who to choose first?
Well ... did he want his boyfriend watching him chat up another guy? Viola it was. He approached her with a smile on his face. He didn't know her well, but they had fled together on that awful night, so there was at least some foundation for comfort with one another.
"Good evening, Viola," Vinayak offered. "That's a lovely outfit. How are you?"

"Happy Halloween Miss Atkinson! Don't you look lovely! Did your mother get the chance to see you?" The Red lady was a playful spirit that only came out on Halloween and over the years, Annabel had formed a very close friendship with her. And while to other Annabel was chatting with thin air, she saw a woman in a stunning red dress with so much grace and beauty.
"She didn't get the chance to see me but I was able to contact her this morning." Another lovely thing about halloween. Communication between this world and the spirit world was so much easier. And for a few moment she could talk to her, ask her how her rest was and just know that she was still watching her. Her eyes flicked back to the door, a clear sign that she was waiting for someone and the spirit knew it.
"If that boy stood you up I will haunt him for you." The woman promised and she shook her head. But she couldn't stop the laugh that left her lips at the thought of the Red Lady haunting anyone, she was more beautiful than spooky and always has been and always will be.
"It's fine, look! There he is!" She spotted Arne trying to sneak out and see turned around to stop him and then she had to stop and wave over at her lovely spirit friend. "Oh Happy Hallowen! I'll see you soon!" With that said she went over to where Arne was and caught his hand. "Leaving so soon?" She asked with a soft smile kissing his cheek. She already knew right away that this wasn't the sort of Arne she feared so much. No this was her shy silly boy who clearly didn't want to be in a room with all these people. Well she would make sure he felt relax and that this was all about just having a good time.
"Come on I promise Halloween is a good thing, and this party is fun you will love it." A gentle tug on his hand to get him to follow her. "And worst comes to worst we can always just find somewhere quiet to sit and talk to ghost."
