Quite chuffed with himself, Runi hung the newly-finished 'days since last explosion' sign above the workstation he had been setting up all day. Now, as far as he was concerned, all that their little shop needed was something to actually sell to people. The lab itself was actually neat, and free from all soot, blueprints and assorted junk that would soon fill ever corner and possibly never be removed.
Given that it was hardly early enough in the day to actually start working on anything, Runi found himself without something to occupy himself and consequently was immediately bored. He walked into the shop section and draped himself across a couch and hoped that something interesting would happen soon. 'Va-lo!" he called out, his eyes drooping closed. "I am regretting moving already. This town has all the energy of a dying potato, and I recall specifically stating that I did not want to see any more dying potatoes."
At least tomorrow he could start singeing the edges of his explosion sign, and this place would really start to feel like home. And it'd be back to pouring over potions texts to try and figure out if Valo's brilliant idea was actually feasible.

Working on putting some boxes away upstairs where their living quarters were located, Valo dropped a box of Runi's clothes off in his bedroom before wiping a few beads of sweat from her forehead and letting out an exhausted sigh. That silly little boy was making her do all the hard work, but it didn't matter - she would do it for him anyway. She stepped into the hallway and glanced about their living spaces - each of them had their own bedroom and bathroom, and then they shared a living, dining, and kitchen area. It was perfect for the two of them, really, especially when they could step downstairs and be in their working quarters. Their shop was bound to be amazing, and she would see to it that everything fell into line perfectly.
In the middle of her glorious daydream, she heard her name be whined from the couch in the living room and rolled her eyes a bit before heading down the hall and standing in the doorway with her arms folded over her chest. "You better stop whining, Runi," she said with a shake of her head. "The town might not be all that exciting, but you were the one who didn't want to move directly into the big city," she reminded him. "So, be patient. This is just a stepping stone for us."
She moved across the living room and plopped down on the loveseat perpendicular to the sofa he was on and let out a relaxing sigh. "Besides, once we get this potion formulated, I can promise you that we won't be here longer than a few months. We'll make enough money to move us to the big city in a nicer place as well as have enough to send plenty back to Mum and Papa," she said with a smile at the idea. They were going to create one of the most amazing potions in the world, and they would go down in history for it as two of the greatest inventors of all time.

The response consisted of a half-hearted glare. "You make it sound like I chose to move here, instead of pointing out that it was the best option. I don't know about you, but I had enough of sharing a bed with you when we were little. And the prices for lab space were astronomical." It was hardly fair of her to act like she'd done all the work. He had done every bit of heavy lifting of their varying equipment. Of course, he'd used magic to do so, but it had still required almost as much effort as jamming their other belongings upstairs. "I can be patient. I mean, I rather have to, but I can. I didn't so much as prank anyone on the boat-ride here, that's patience in the extreme!" Muggle transport, so slow. When were they going to take to the skies and make broom travel obsolete?
"That will be nice." He opened his eyes and rolled over so that he could actually see his sister and grinned. "It's a shame they wouldn't come with us, but the two of them stuck in the city... I don't know if they'd survive it. Mama would get arrested for healing everyone she met. Again." It was a horrible image, their wild parents stuck in the tame urban skyblocks. Like taking a bear and an otter from the woods and trying to make them enjoy the desert. Runi already missed them, even though he knew that made him more than a little bit of a Mama's boy. He knew Valo missed them too, neither of them had ever ventured so far away before.
"Still. You would think that the witches and wizards around here would do a bit more. They almost have a pass to have the best nightlife in the whole state, because there aren't all that many people's memories to wipe." Instead they seemed to be content to have a school and he assumed an alcohol trade. "Oh man, I forgot, booze is totally illegal here, isn't it?" he groaned loudly. "Now I know why there's nothing going on. They're all too sober to be real people."

Runi was right. It was truly amazing just how much one sibling would balance out the other when, if one seemed to feel one way about something unwise or irrational, the other was quick to put their foot down. This may have ended in the two irritating one another from time to time, but it made them the ideal, perfect duo. "You're right," she sighed, shaking her head. It had been her idea to move to the big city and just make things work, but logically, it was an irresponsible suggestion on her part. The expenses would be far too high even with their current amount of funding, and without the appropriate lab space required for such experiments, the two wouldn't be able to produce their product anyway. "But as for your 'patience', the only reason you refrained was because I threatened not to cook you dinner when we got here," she said with a soft smirk. She was the chef in the family seeing as Runi would get too lost in his work to even think to eat half the time.
The mentioning of their parents was good for the two of them but also plucked at Valo's heartstrings. Family had always been so very important to the lot of them, and they were essentially the spitting images of their parents - reincarnated, almost. Valo was more like her mother in personality, being the nurturing type, but favored her father in appearance. Runi, on the other hand, was strong willed and driven like their father was resembled their mother more. "Well, either she would be arrested for healing everyone, or Pa would be arrested for pulling some sort of shenanigan in the town square," she snickered, shaking her head a bit.
Alcohol was illegal, which put a damper on things for the siblings. They were both sociable and both found solace in letting go with a few drinks at the end of a long day, so prohibition was something the two definitely weren't accustomed to. "Well, there are apparently a couple of speakeasies around here," she said with a small shrug. While she had gone out earlier to fetch some groceries, she had heard some whispers and seen a couple of discreet sings to point out the two establishments labeled "The Underground" and "The Red Velvet Room." They would probably be a bit more tame seeing as they were forbidden, but she figured it was better than nothing. "We should focus on work for a little while, anyway. The quicker we put out results, the sooner we can get out of here after all."

It didn't really matter what else she said to try and even things up, so much as admitting that he had a point in one of their less important arguments was enough of a win to send him off on a happy little high. Of course he was right, this time, he'd been the one to actually weigh up the benefits and drawbacks. If she had done it, she would have come to the exact same conclusion and they would still be here. Still, given that he often took the role of the unreasonable sibling when it came to common sense, it was nice to be in the right for once. "You overestimate the power of my stomach, sister. It was the threat of you drowning me that finally convinced me to not prank the shockingly loud old couple next door to us." He wasn't that bad of a cook, not really, it was just that cooking required more of an awareness of the passage of time than he possessed.
"I imagine it would be something along the lines of summoning his boat in the river. Not that it would actually fit." The first time he'd tried something like that it had been stuck in a lake for a week, halfway raised from the base of the lake and the other half stuck in some kind of terrifying netherworld. Runi also felt like he had to defend his father, just because half of the plots that he had taken the fall for had actually been Runi's idea originally. Their father just had a knack for taking those ideas and making them into incredible productions that were the talk of the town for weeks. It really was going to be hard to be without them for so long.
"What the hell is a speakeasy?" Runi wondered aloud. It wasn't like Denmark had made the foolish decision to try and stop its entire population from drinking, so there wasn't exactly any need for illegal bars. In fact, the culture of drinking was so pervasive that Runi was still having trouble adjusting to the idea of not having bars on every street corner. And suggesting to Runi that they focus on work was just a recipe for disaster. The last time that had happened neither of them had left the lab for the week, and he'd had to get three fingers and a toe reattached to him. "That'll be an event."
