River was blatantly lying to her face. How she knew surprised even her because it showed that she had studied his expressions enough to see whenever he wasn't telling her the truth about something. Whenever he would lie, his pupils would dilate very slightly, but given the darkness of his eyes, it was almost impossible for nearly anyone to make out. Nixie had learned to read people and pick up on very subtle things in the war, though, so she shook her head and took a step towards him. "Don't lie to me, River," she said sternly, a pained expression on her face as opposed to an angry one. "You lie and try to hide things from me always. I know you're lying because of eyes."
She sighed and ran a hand through her hair once again before pointing towards her bathroom. "Go take shower," she instructed. Him leaving her apartment in such condition certainly would look horrible on the both of them. "I make breakfast while you clean up." And with that, she walked past him and out of the room, headed towards the kitchen to prepare a large breakfast for the both of them.

River looked at Nixie again and sighed, well what a fuckturd he was, why did he even try with this woman? This woman who could spot his fault as quick as his mother. He ran a hand through his hair, sighing. They could spot his faults and make him feel awful, great. He didn't need another mother, he just escaped his own not too long ago and now he has to handle with a prettier and younger one, he supposed that was even worse than all the hitting and shit.
Because not that he would admit it, but he didn't exactly like being hurt by someone he was slowly starting to fall in love like a lot.
River went to that room he assumed was the bathroom, stripping down and groaning as he realized he didn't have a shirt as he had to take it off from his mission. But he sucked it up and went to turn on the shower, stepping in after it was in the coldest setting, he hated it when he had to shower with with warm water, even in the winter he showered with cold water, warm waters were for pussies. River looked down, seeign all the dried up blood wash away, turning the water red when it passed the drain. It thankfully wasn't mostly his blood, but he was definitely badly hurt before Nixie patched him up.
He thought about the bad things he did, but figured it was no use sulking about it, there was probably nothing he could do now. He cleaned himself, taking quite a bit in the shower before he decided to get out. He summoned one of her towels, drying most of his hair and then his body before wrapping it around his waist. He looked down, still no shirt. He figured he could steal one of her dress tops and transfigure it, and that's exactly what he did, taking what clothes he had and going over to place them in her bed, walking over to her dresser, searchsing for something he could transfigure easily.
Nope, full dresses.
Nope, panties... very sexy ones.
Nope, bras... she had a decent size
Finally, dress tops.
He took a random one, taking his wand from his pants and easily transfigured her top. She wouldn't notice she had a missing pair, right? Yeah, no. Hopefully she wouldn't.

Nixie was still stressed out when she entered her kitchen, still feeling this initial shock and freak out from finding her colleague in her bed with her. It was strange enough that she was was dreaming about him as she slept. The dream wasn't completely clear, but she remembered bits and pieces of it. There were moments in it like that night he walked her back to her apartment, where the two of them were holding hands once again. She even dreamed of them having more silly English lessons in his classroom and down in the markets, which were also pleasant. And, finally, her dream had ended with their lips locked together.
'But why?'
It hurt her abnormally bad whenever he would lie to her, but she figured that was probably something she would have to get used to. He was a mafia man, and there was no way she would be able to get any and all answers out of him. With a heavy sigh, she set to making the breakfast - bacon, eggs, and toast - and let the delicious smells and soothing motions of stirring and flipping calm her nerves back down.
Once the food was prepared, she set up two plates and placed them at her small dining room table before heading back towards her bedroom. He ought to be done by now, and when she poked her head inside to find him only wearing a towel, she found her cheeks turning a vibrant red. "Sorry, sorry!" She quickly squeaked, covering her eyes and popping back out of the doorway. She spoke to him from the hallway instead. "I, erm... Breakfast is ready when you are. See you at table." And with that, she hurriedly walked back to the table and sat down - feeling incredibly embarrassed.

He looked at Nixie, raising a brow as she walked in on him in a towel holding her newly transfigured shirt. It was a bit awkward, he had to admit, but he had no objections to showing himself off naked to her. I mean, that was the long-term objective, right? River sighed, shaking his head, maybe River could cheer up with breakfast, if she was a good cook, that is. If not, well... He was going to be a cranky red panda, that's for sure. He was a very heavy eater when it comes to home cooked meals, but since he didn't live off of home cooked meals, he only ate enough to keep him going. River didn't trust himself not to poison himself with his own cooking.
He wore the newly transfigured shirt and what seemed to by his dirty and bloodied pants. He didn't bother with a necktie, he didn't want to go bother finding a pair of panties or bra piece to transfigure. Her wasn't going to be sticking here long enough anyways, and his place was literally like right across from hers, so technically he couldn't even sneak off to the apartment across, which was plain dumb. He could burn buildings, commit murder and torture and all that shit, but not even sneak away to his own home across where he was.
Was it too late to decline on breakfast?
River was all dressed up and exited her bedroom with his usual impassive face, making his way to the said table where the food was. He slid down in the empty seat, not meeting Nixie's eyes. So new plan. Breakfast, then ditch her. Yeah, that was a very good rebound plan. Oh how he really fucked this one up big time, Pietro would be laughing his ass off at him if he hears about this. Bastard.

Well, this was destined to be an incredibly awkward breakfast for the both of them. River had not only stayed in his animagus form throughout the evening and slept in her bed because of it, but he had cuddled up to her in the dead of night and even had a hand resting between her legs when she awoke. Now, of course that probably wasn't intentional, which would make it awkward for him, but the worst part of it all was that... She had enjoyed it. He was in her dreams, and some part of her subconscious knew that she was curled up against his chest but didn't fight it off. What exactly did that mean? This was something all too new to her, and didn't quite understand it.
She looked up as he slid down into the chair opposite her, but she frowned when he didn't make any sort of eye contact. "You are upset with me," she sighed, frowning a bit. Why was it that it hurt her so badly to know that he wasn't happy with her? It felt like a knife penetrating her chest. "I'm sorry," she said with a shake of her head, dropping her gaze down to her plate. "I did not mean to get upset with you.. Just a little confused and freaked out when waking up is all." She hoped that he would accept her apology, but she couldn't exactly blame him if he didn't.

"Well, more of myself, really. You shouldn't be sorry, it was my fault." he simply said to her, taking a glance at the good. Great, now he made her feel bad and all worked up about it. Why couldn't he have just told her the truth? Was it still to late? Yeah, just simply say, 'Yeah, unregistered animagus and I kind of ran away because I am responsible for a cold-blooded massacre of about twenty something people, trespassed and committed arson of the said building I trespassed.' It didn't really sound good and if anything, this was Nixie. She will most likely punch his jaw broken and won't heal it this time.
River shifted, breaking the ice and taking a liverwurst and placing it on his plate. Liverwurst, part of the typical German breakfast. Usually paired with schlackwurst, makes a great meaty breakfast. If Germans were anything, they were meaty. He made a clicking noise with his tongue, "So, right. Red panda," he started, immediately biting the inside of his cheek. River looked up at the woman, "Um, I can't explain that," he could in a very blunt way, but he figured she would kick him out as soon as she could with a broken jaw. He couldn't just tell her he was doing more mafia work.

Nixie decided not to press the issue any further, especially seeing as she probably wouldn't like whatever she was told. So, instead, she began to pick absently at her breakfast and only ingested about a quarter of it before she decided she wouldn't be able to eat any more of it. Because there was a question plaguing the back of her mind. It was a question she probably had no business asking and something she also probably didn't want to the answer to, but it was eating her alive slowly. Nixie had always been a curious girl, even before the war, and now that she was getting back to being who she once was, that quality was beginning to shine through a lot more.
"River..." She paused for a moment, hesitant to ask what she was about to ask, but she had to know the answer. She had to know because whatever reason was behind her dreams from the night before was pushing her to find out why... "Why did you stay?" She asked, finally looking back up to him. "You knew it was me, so.. Why didn't you leave? I do not understand..."

Unlike Nixie, River probably ate more than he should in their current awkward situation. But hey, since she wasn't eating much, there would be wastes of food, and he guessed it would be rude to waste food after all, so he ate more than he should and appreciated the cooking. River was taught with manners though, so he was very low-key in trying to finish up what was left of the food in front of him except the one that was on her plate. Though for the most part he only ate in large amounts when it was home cooked. Like when Pietro was kind enough to cook for him or something along those lines, or when Suki came over and started lecturing him on eating more home cooked foods and he would end up tricking her to cook for him.
When she asked him a question, River found himself easily knowing the answer to her question. Honest and truthful that wouldn't hurt her surprisingly. "Well, the original plan was for you not to catch me. When you ended up taking me back, I knew that when you slept was the best moment for me to escape... I kind of fell asleep as well, but I was tired," he murmured to her, the last part he had murmured slowly. He looked down at his plate, then started to eat again. Just being here honestly made him want to eat whatever he was thinking. He might also want to eat her out, but that should be kept to himself.

So, his intention had been to escape in the night and not have her find out that it was him. Something within her deflated when he told her that, and subconsciously she had been wishing that he would have informed her that he had wanted to stay. It would have brought her some sort of strange joy knowing that he had purposefully curled her up against his chest, and that confused her, which unfortunately showed in the furrowed brow resting on her face.
Noticing that he had finished his meal, though, she tried to change the subject. "Decent enough breakfast?" She asked with a small smile, getting up and grabbing her own plate before scraping the remainder of her food into the trashcan. "I do not cook much, so I'm sorry if it was not best," she said with a shake of her head.
Why was she still wanting to ask questions? What was her deal? "It did not freak you out that I was against chest?" She asked, not looking in his direction as she headed towards the sink to begin cleaning her plate and utensils. Well... This was probably going to be an answer she didn't want..

River definitely didn't notice her deflate a little bit. What, he didn't know she digs him now and he was telling her the truth now, so what was all that big deal? Sometimes he was honest at the wrong moments, really. Maybe it was better if he continued lying to her, after all that's what he really only did. To Pietro, to Nixie, to Suki, to Uncle Enzo, his students, everyone. He lied and his things and he still continued to do so. Lying was probably another thing River was better at than Pietro.
"Yeah, it was great," he tried to smile at her. "It was very nice, I don't really cook so," he tried to chuckle it off. His chuckle was very short, realizing that they were still in a very awkward situation. He didn't further elaborate on the whole 'not-cooking' thing. Maybe that's something both of them had in common, they don't cook much. But at least she made edible food. River... he was death from head to toe, to torturing to cooking. In short, he probably was more likely to summon up Satan with food rather than enjoy it.
Then she had asked the awkward question, and his expression had stiffened. He thought about it, then shook his head, "I was too freaked out that you were freaked out and the fact that I was still in your bed," River looked away, because he was already thinking about what to say if she was going to ask him why she was all up next to her breast. River wouldn't be able to make up an excuse that would be believable other than being honest and say that he was a terribly horny male.

Well, she felt a temporary relief that he hadn't completely hated his food, and once she was finished cleaning off her plate, she moved back towards the table to collect his own. "I am glad it was good," she said with a nod, smiling softly at him. "I only halfway know German food... Anything else is disaster," she sighed. It was true; her cooking skills were pretty horrendous, and the more she realized it, the more she came to terms with the fact that she would likely make a terrible housewife one day. But, who said she would end up married anyway? With the baggage she brought with her anywhere she went and the terrifying things she had done, she didn't deserve to live a happily married life with someone.
Especially not River..
But as she returned to the sink with his plate and silverware in hand, the gears inside her head kept turning fast and faster. There were so many emotions and thoughts causing her brain to swell that she thought her head might explode, and try as she might to focus on cleaning the rest of the dishes, she just couldn't push them from her head. She dropped the utensils into the sink and shut the water off, head hanging and staring into the sink as she leaned against the counter. "I was freaked out because I had dream... I had dream about you," she said softly. "And then I woke up with you in bed. And it was good dream. Confusing dream, but good.." Goodness, she needed to just spit out what she was trying to say, even if she wasn't quite sure what that was.
She turned around quickly and looked to him with a furrowed brow and a confused expression. "I... I like you, River. A lot," she said with a shake of her head. "And maybe I am crazy. No, I am. But you just..." She sighed, unsure of how to even say what she was saying. "I am confused.. I do not know how to express self."

Well if she was doubting her own cooking skills, either she didn't know she's an okay cook, or he was that terrible at cooking. River was thinking it was the latter, seeing as he had given himself food poisoning from time to time whenever he was pretty courageous on trying to feed himself with his own food. He's also given his little sister food poisoning as well somewhere down the line before. It was honestly a good thing she was a healer, it was some kind of shit self-care shit that she did trying to vomit his cooking out and doing some magical spell healing things that she did herself. He sighed mentally, he definitely needed a wife to cook for him, but he also wanted to sleep with plenty of pretty girls too. What he knew he needed was a really hot wife, hot enough for him not to get bored and shit, so he could keep sleeping with her. Or he could just be the usual husband, having extramarital affairs with other ladies. But he knew it wouldn't work once Pietro finds out. His ass would be thoroughly kicked, River knew deep within his mind. Yeah, the former was the better option, but also the harder to fulfill one.
Nixie then started up the conversation again telling him about her dream about him. A dream? About him? He wasn't sure how to approach this topic since he didn't know what kind of dream she had about him, and it even shocked him that it was a good dream since everything that had been going on. Usually hearing that from other girls, River would proceed to say some really smooth things and proceed to bed them, but since this started off as a really awkward conversation which in turned still was awkward, River didn't know whether to ask her what the dream was about or not. He was afraid it would just turn to something even more awkward, as if this wasn't awkward enough already. Everything about this morning was so weird, it wasn't something you could just escape. From the unsettling things directed at him one after the other, River was proud of himself able to think fast and act quickly, not necessarily acting smart, but he definitely acted fast.
Oh Merlin, the L-word. Well, not necessarily THE L-word, but it was close. He didn't understand the concept of like that she was regarding to, but it seemed she was implying the like the way... he couldn't explain it. The way his brother liked one of his students, that way. That kind of like, he guessed. Unfortunately for Nixie, River didn't even come close to admitting his own attraction to her, seeing as he was still figuring out how to feel normal things himself. River was still that... thing, something that could not feel, at least back then. Because easily enough, Nixie was making him feel weird things, she made him feel quite warm and good, that's how he'd describe it. Also awkward, she made him feel awkward. Plenty of awkward, before he wouldn't be able to distinguish that from anything, but now he was pretty acquainted with awkwardness and weirdness around her. Anyone else, nope? He was nothing more than still a monster. Whatever humanity he had in himself, hated the way he was monstrous. River didn't know that it wasn't his fault. The monster was beaten into him the moment he was born.
He couldn't look at her without wincing, now he thought he didn't know what to say earlier? Yeah well fuck that, he was speechless now. The only thing he could think of saying was the truth, that he couldn't help her with this one either. Like her, River wasn't experienced enough to deal with their own feelings. He also used to be someone who didn't harbor feelings as well. "I don't know how to either."

The only thing to leave the man's lips were that he didn't know how to express himself, which caused a large lump to form at the back of her throat - threatening to overtake her and force her into a choking fit right then and there. Why did she have to go and open her mouth? She was always so good at keeping her emotions at bay, but when it came to River, there were things constantly trying to force themselves out of her. "I understand," she managed to get out, forcing that lump back down into her stomach. It felt as if her heart was sinking, but she wasn't going to let him know that. So, she turned back to the sink and put away the newly cleaned dishes, trying to keep herself together.
Once the dishes were put away, she looked back to him briefly. "We have class to teach," she said with a nod. "I must get ready, so if you excuse me." She then dismissed herself to head down the hallway towards her bedroom. She needed a scalding shower to rinse away the bad energy that was now consuming her..
