A hangover was uncommon for Vivian, but not rare, her alcohol tolerance was superb. However, the way the morning sun glowed brightly with a golden hue, her head throbbed from the previous night's activities. None of that mattered, it wasn't the first liquor headache, and it wouldn't be the last. The freshness of the morning was made evident by the linger dew clinging onto all it would touch to avoid the evaporation. If nature's hints weren't enough to paint the picture, the modesty of Vivian's dress was the largest indication that the day was far new.
Coffee, that was the key to thriving. It made the world go 'round. The energy it gave ,the smell that warmed you, the conversations it welcomed, coffee was one of the utmost importance of liquid, after spirits and water. The girl was more than thankful she had decided with her cousin to have a date over coffee.
Her footsteps were nearly soundless against the cement leading up to the coffee shop. In entering, she didn't bother waiting for Suki to put their orders in. After all, might as well make it simple. "Two black coffees, please." She dropped the coins, flashed the cashier a smile, and directed herself to a somewhat secluded table, simply out of habit. If not for the brightness of the sun, she would've chosen a table outside to drink and gossip.
The two cups were placed in front of her. Automatically, Vivian crossed her legs and smiled up at the deliver, "Thanks, darlin'." She gave a wink, hoping the individual would scurry off and away. She admired the movement of the steam of the two cups as they mingled in the air into nothingness. She blinked a bit, still escaping the sleepiness of a long, successful night. Out of the trance, Vivian pulled one of the mugs closer to her and sprinkled some white, sweet flakes into the black liquid. Lazily, she stirred, knowing that at any moment Suki would make her entrance as if on cue. She smiled to herself, knowing for well she was right, she knew her family like the back of her hand.

A date over coffee was exactly what she needed. A date with her gorgeous cousin was exactly what she needed. A day in life of Suki Holland was full of stress and degrading comments from her male co-workers, dealing with the lives of people as she handles the very serious spell damage floor. It seemed everyone was so caught up with trying to make her feel like shit that their job performance was slipping away. Oh well, that's not her fault of anything, it was theirs. Suki was able to work under pressure and stress from her male counterparts. Can they do that? She didn't think so. But she loved being a healer, she loved helping and saving the lives of countless people, even those who wouldn't thank her in the long run just because she was a woman. She didn't care, healing people was her passion.
Suki Antonucchi was a different story. As her duty as a fisher, she was praised for her looks, money, and whatever they could find praise on. She had a laid-back life of luxury and adventure to where she would fish information in the depths of New York and in the watchful eyes of everyone who is out for her blood, and for the bounty in her head, or simply for the law. But she hated it, she hated the praise, she hated the action, she hated the luxury. It wasn't her, she wasn't meant to be praised for being a woman.
Though being an Antonucchi has its perks: Family. And that family included lovely and beautiful Vivian. A little girl-power was all she needed, and Vivian was filled with that said girl-power. She definitely looked up to her younger cousin. And as soon as she was inside the coffee shop where they were supposed to meet, she saw her darling cousin and walked immediately towards her like a magnet with a smile, "Oh well I hope my coffee hasn't gone cold, it means you would have been waiting for me for quite a while, but I see a little bit of steam coming out of it," the blonde smirked. "I think I'm just in time for a little gossip," she had a deep Italian accent with her words, well, they were all Italian raised so...

As previously concluded, and like clockwork, Suki strutted in. Not on time, but never late, it ran in their blood. That, obviously, wasn't the only similarity between the girls. For being cousins, they looked more alike than different; hypnotic blue eyes and those beautiful, full lips worn better by Suki. Appearance wasn't the strongest connection these two girls had. They grew up together, family after all, but kept close to one another due to gender. Nurturing (even if hidden by Vivian), strong, and deviously intelligent.
It was her blonde hair, first, that Vivian noticed, the same trait she had always envied. It was pinned, as always, to an effortless perfection. There was no need to wave Suki over, the table was the same table as always.
Sipping on the sugar laced brew, she winked at her cousin as she hovered the table. She set the drink down, crossing her legs and leaning back, and listened with a laugh playing on her smile. “It’s probably ice by now.” Vivian laughed quietly, “Oh, you slay me.” She raised an eyebrow at the word gossip, “got any dirt?”

Suki had always envied Vivian secretly. Gorgeous and luxurious black hair that she had seen cascading down like a black waterfall so many times, pinned up beautifully by clips and hairnets of upper echelon riches, pale moonlit skin, smooth as marble and a baby's bottom combined, full kissable lips that she assumes men couldn't resist. And the most envious feature she had were blue sapphires for eyes that they both share, but she wore much more beautifully with her features. You always see blonde and blue-eyed girls like her, but you don't see much of raven-haired and blue-eyed girls like Vivian, which made Vivian's eyes shine brighter than hers ever did.
Vivian was not all just that, she had elegance in her ways much more defined than hers, had a nurturing trait that Suki could all ever hope she had, and intelligence to be sought-after by many, many people. In short, Vivian was the better cousin. Suki could wish she hated her cousin, but she couldn't. They shared a very close bond in their secret double-lives and they took care of one another. Vivian did a better job at taking care of her, Suki was more prone to being a bit more brash than Vivian, but it was understandable. Her brother was River, if you've been next to him your whole life you're bound to get a little bit brash like him at times, but Suki took on more like Pietro personality-wise luckily. If she had to care for anyone the most in the world, it had to be her dearest cousin, they could very much relate to one another than most in the family. They were like two sides in the same coin. One cannot be without the other, age factor was very big on their closeness-factor too as well.
"Oh, I have gossip all right, as Suki Holland yet again," she told her beautiful cousin as she sat down and prepared her coffee with the given cream and sugar placed in elegant jars in the table. "I haven't had the least bit O'Brien gossip these days, sadly. But hospital-wise, I have dirt on some of my coworkers," she said with a smirk, "Jullius, you know him, I introduced him to you last year, you know how he's married right?" Suki was slow and soft with her storytelling, and she almost had to bit her lip from laughing as she told her story. She finished preparing her coffee and sipped it to taste the still-warm drink. Perfect.

“Damn those O’Brien’s. How lazy of them!” Vivian jested, chuckling quietly. She watched as Suki adjusted the coffee to suit her taste better. A faint smile tugged onto the girl’s painted lips, thinking of how people fix their drinks shows bystanders a glimpse into their personality. For example, Vivian uses only sugar which indicates she’s more bitter than sweet. Suki drinks with both cream and sugar, even the way she stirs the beverage screams sweet and precise.
“Jullius, the cute one?” She questioned, blowing on the still uncomfortably hot drink. She gestured an apology for interrupting not once, but twice now. After setting down the cup, Vivian leaned in closer to listen.
The way Suki expressed her story, the motions and tone she delivered with the details, kept Vivian memorized. This so happened to be another trait the two girls shared. She almost gasped at the conclusion, her jaw dropped. “No,” Vivian giggled, fixing her posture. She lifted the coffee to her lips, “You’re kidding?”

Suki chuckled, she loved the fact that she didn't have to be so proper with her. She can be sincere and be herself, as cliche as that sounds. "One of the extremely few things I find entertaining in a male-dominated workplace. Homosexual affairs," she sighed out happily. "Too bad... he was cute, I would have loved to wreck his marriage," Suki sipped at her coffee, shaking her head with amusement.
There was nothing wrong with homosexuality, Suki had long past moved forward with her thoughts unlike the society they lived in today. She was thinking way ahead, having a perspective of a futuristic world already behind her eyes. But she thought extramarital affairs were fucking dumb. She'd like to joke about it, but really... She despised people who would ever think of just cheating on someone who had given them their all... The one-sided layer of it disgusted Suki, hypocritically, she's destroyed lots of marriages due to her Mafia work. Same goes for River, her brother... But he does that voluntarily.

Vivian sighed, shaking her head with a tsk sound echoing against her teeth. Stopping the motion, she looked at Suki and started laughing again. Thankfully, it wasn’t a snort or wheezing chuckle, soft and sweet. “What can a girl do?” She looked down into her cup, frowning at the fact it was now more than half empty. She set the cup down again and pushed it a short distance from herself, saving it the best she could. “After all, I don’t know how I am able to control myself in certain male presences, I cannot judge.”
Of course an affair to wedge a marriage was a joke, anything with such malice outside of work wasn’t fitting to Suki’s character. It was something safe to giggle along with, as long as no one made assumptions that it was an accurate statement.
Her glance fell onto her hands, watching as her thumbs fiddled one another. Speaking of the topic, it had been a long while since Vivian had an sort of romantic encounter. She shrugged it off quickly and, in looking back up, flashed Suki a smile. “I wouldn’t put it past someone in the family to do such a thing.” She lifted a balled hand to her lips and faked cough, adding River’s name in the breath.

She looked at her coffee, "Yeah, though I had to admit, it was pretty funny. Especially the way they almost thought they caught me... Its the most excitement I get these days, what has life done to me?" she sighed exasperatedly. Suki usually put herself above silly gossip or scandals, except when it concerns the mafia. Now that was her job, of course. Now the lack of activity reduced her to even spread some daylight work-related job with her fellow cousin, which the second part isn't bad. She understood how much she needed to gossip something even as something trivial as a homosexual extra-marital affairs.
"Darling, you're talking to Santo Antonucchi's only daughter. I've wrecked marriages far and wide, though nothing to feel accomplished about. Yet, my brother sees it as a gold trophy, each little relationships," Suki laughed, though it was quite a maddening one. Not sane at all, though in a way for them it would be completely normal. Suki wouldn't be the first to go mad. Everyone born to crime families has a little twist in their minds after all. It wasn't too bad. Everyone was a little insane after all, they just had it a little bit worse. To pay for their crimes.

Nodding slowly in agreeance, Vivian smiled at Suki. She knew how her cousin felt about spreading other’s affairs. The family business tainted Suki, both girls were quick to figure it out. “What a rush. Adrenaline, huh?” She scratched at the corner of her nose with her thumbnail and then finished off her coffee. “Could you just image being caught in a moment of intimacy? Or even being intimate with someone you aren’t allowed to be with?” It was such a dumb question, but so much had happened lately to make her curious, to make her wonder about being in the position herself.
“You gotta do what you gotta do, it doesn’t help that we’re women,” Vivian frowned a bit, looking at the bottom of her empty cup. “River is just experimenting.” That was the second time she had defended her other cousin in the past week. There was no harm in their jokes about him, but she still felt it necessary to give him some credit, even if he was the one she saw the least of out of the three siblings.
As Suki laughed, Vivian admired her. She couldn’t help but crack a smile. Crazy, practically bonkers. It was in the blood, so she snickered along with her.

Suki looked at Vivian, shaking her head, "I can't say for myself because I'm forced, but I assume its a thrill for everybody else," she really did feel bad for wrecking any marriages that she had, it wasn't for her to brag. But family loyalty is family loyalty, it has to be done for the sake of the family. She hadn't really known anyone who'd she wanted to be intimate with, which was a surprise because Suki looked like someone who wore her heart on her sleeve.
Suki nodded, sipping at her coffee again, "River is not experimenting, Vivian. River has slept with all kinds of girls, he's tried every single one of them all," she pointed out. "It makes me really sick in the stomach to think about, he can't keep it in his pants, darling." Suki didn't spare River any credit or excuses, he was her older brother. He should know how to behave himself properly, and she knew he didn't have to sleep around as much as she did. But he sleeps around the most in the Antonucchi family, as of now.

She shivered at the word forced. It was true, more or less, that expectation to be loyal was forceful. Vivian shifted a bit, crossing and uncrossing her legs. “People do the craziest things just for the thrill.” She flashed her cousin a smile, or at least attempted to grin. Vivian herself knew nothing about how it must feel, especially for Suki, to live that lifestyle all for the family. Sometimes, she wondered, how they ended up how they did. She wondered what the drive originated from to be at the top. Sure, the top was nice, but it was so tiresome, Vivian could see how it exhausted some of the family members.
“River is still young, he still needs to find himself in this crazy world.” Young. It was almost laughable, but Vivian did mean it. She and all of her cousins were still children, practically. It was that way, not because of age, but because of the fact they’ve been working all of their lives in the adult world. She knew there was no winning in arguing with Suki, she, after all, was the twin’s sister and knew them far better than Vivian did. “All's fair in love and war, right?” She winked, hoping to lighten the mood.

Suki wished she was simply a messenger like Vivian, but now seeing as her siblings were so into the business, with one being the next in line in being the head, well everyone just assumed she would get in deep with the business. Her brothers were just so devoted to the cause and simply just left none for her. Maybe that's why she seemed so eager to get out of this whole mess, Vivian was the only thing that she really wanted to keep in her family life. Sure she loved her brothers, but...
They weren't what Suki should stick with.
"River is barely young, he knows what he's doing, I'm sure," Suki sighed, shaking her head and taking a sip of her coffee. She took a glance at her cousin, then back at her coffee. She felt like a white sheep in the clump of snakes, but she didn't feel vulnerable at all. Far from it, actually. Maybe its from being with the snakes for too long. Suki took a look at her beautiful cousin again, "There's no love here, only war."

Vivian was silent, letting everything settle. Tracing the mouth of the mug, she sighed and flashed Suki a faint grin. She wasn’t completely clueless. After all, she had the time to pay attention to everything, her hands held all the information going to and from the family members. She knew everyone’s secret. Suki’s was the easy secret to obtain. It wasn’t that her cousin was weak, this just wasn’t for her. As family, the same blood pumping through their veins, the respect and loyalty was still valid, but Suki deserved it outside of the business. Vivian didn’t have the same title Suki did, she was sure the roles would’ve been better switched, maybe not... but that’s not how things worked.
There was no purpose in arguing. However, internally, Vivian continued to defend River. He was an asshole, a player, but he truly was a child. Born into a crime family and, being taught from a young age the world of adults, you tend to cling onto some childish qualities. That point had already been made, but, like the herself, Suki was stubborn as Hell.
She shook her head. “Family is love.”

"Love, you're talking about the wrong kind of love, Vivi. Love was what started this," Suki reminded her cousin. It wasn't as if she hid that she didn't necessarily cared for the family business, but it seemed that only Vivian cared enough to notice. Suki loved Vivian for that, and quite really this was the reason why she considered Vivian as a sibling more than a cousin. Vivian knew her inside out, front and back. Every single information about Suki Antonucchi, all known by Vivian. Including her hobbies like playing the saxophone, teaching herself with stubbornness and determination, all of the little things the woman knew. Vivian also knew by now what Suki was going to say to her, "Love of power and money."
The single truth in all of this mess was said. If there was something that was more true than anything else it is that the love of power and money was the root cause for this... evil, if she could call it that. "You're the only good now, Vivian. Well dangerously good, actually. I wish we just weren't subjected to this, we are definitely better than... this. But you know its still quite hard to remove yourself from this when you feel nothing but utter devotion and loyalty despite how much you would crave normalcy," Suki sighed, thinking about something she had read in one of her books.
"Regression toward the mean, an idea that states that if a variable is extreme on its first measurement, it will tend to be closer to the average on its second measurement—and if it is extreme on its second measurement, it will tend to have been closer to the average on its first. It quite describes us the situation right now, to be honest," Suki hummed softly.

She shook her head. Love, it was how Vivian saw it. Love, her family did love one another, and deeply. Maybe it was twisted, just like the roots of their family tree. But it was love. The answer was far too predictable, and yet she still flinched. God, Vivian needed something to drink, something far stronger than the coffee this place had to offer, it was far too early for that nonsense. “Power and money, it’s protection, and family protects one another in the name of love.” Love.
“We’re all good,” Vivian corrected. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone has to sacrifice something. Even Vivian was beyond fucked up, but, with her position, she was able to keep it hushed. Jealousy was her biggest sin; jealous of Suki’s beauty and talents, jealous of River’s seduction, jealous of Pietro’s love life, jealous of Uncle Enzo for his poise. All she did was drink and gossip. Nothing special about that. “Get out, then.” Vivian whispered, her tone gentle. “Run away from it all. That’s the only way to get out of it. Become Suki Holland forever. You’ll have more opportunities.”
She felt choked as she spoke, but it needed to be said. The only thing Suki truly needed was support. In that moment, she wondered if she wanted to leave with her. This, however, was her lifestyle. She did love it, at least all that she had to deal with. Free alcohol, having blackmail on people... “You cannot live your life on what ifs.”
