After a number of irritating and grueling school days had passed, Hallie finally had the opportunity to look forward to the night she had been awaiting all week-the night that she'd actually get to spend with Samuel without any sort of disruption. To say that she was nervous had to have been the understatement of the year. Nervousness didn't even cover the range of emotions she had begun to feel in the late afternoon. What if he discovered something about her that he didn't like or found too different from himself? Would that make him dis-interested or distance to from her? She certainly hoped not.
These thoughts and more continued to plague her mind as she stood readied herself in her dorm room, her eyes glazing over herself in a long body mirror that had belonged to her roommate, Abigail. Fortunately, for her, Abigail nor her other roommates were there to nag her about how to look and what to wear. Hallie wasn't sure where they exactly were, but she didn't mind too much, because having them bark suggestions at her would have been mildly annoying.
She chewed on her lip continously as she studied the dress she had chosen for the evening. It was a soft ivory color with lace fringe near the hem of the dress, and the too of it had been cut to a particular small, yet noticeable low line. It was classy, and perhaps a little mature for her age, but Hallie figured she would be able to work the dress with just a bit of class. She had simple, white-colored shoes to match, and for her hair, she decided to curl and then pin some of it up into an up-do. Although not a professional in any sense of the word, Hallie shot a smile at the mirror, satisfied with the end result of what she had come up with. After re-touching a bit of her lipstick, she let out a heavy sigh, and grabbed her purse from off her bed before heading out of her dormitory. She received a few long-lived stairs as she passed through the Aer Common Room, to which she just simply smiled at various sets of eyes. Did she really look that different than she normally had?
Reaching the main staircase, she took another deep, steady breathe before carefully descending the stairs. Her eyes stayed glued to her feet, making sure not to trip or slip on the stairs themselves. How utterly mortifying that would be. With a few more steps, however, she had reached the ground floor and collected herself before looking around for a specific familiar face.

Outfit / Car / Super-Classy Condom Packaging
Samuel straightened his bow tie, grinned at his reflection in the mirror, and then polished off his glass of brandy. He felt as though all the nerves in his body were firing at once. The next step in the grand plan: a date with Hallie. The cinema, a romantic film, parking under the stars for some more sweet talk and, ultimately ... he slipped a condom into his pocket, then reconsidered and added a few more, just in case the first one broke. After all, protection was still very important at this stage of the game.
Everything was ready. He had more than enough money in his billfold. There was valet parking at the theater. Malachi had brought the car and left it just in front of the school for Samuel's use. And then there was the single white rose - de-thorned, of course - that would evoke that girlish pink blush.
As Hallie descended the staircase, looking absolutely gorgeous, Samuel watched from his position leaning against a decorative column. Good lord, how he wished he could just jump forward in time. He didn't want to sit through a silly romantic movie, even though he had chosen one with a certain mob touch to it.
He stepped forward to meet her at the base of the staircase, his most charming smile on his face as he offered her the flower and then his arm. "You look utterly gorgeous, Hallie. I cannot describe how much I have looked forward to this moment."

As she gripped the railing of the staircase, her eyes panned and searched for Samuel, meeting other gazes in the process. Some fellow students have her a neutral, uninterested look, while some of them smiled in what she believed to be admiration. Being the lady that she had been raised to be, Hallie always took a moment to reciprocate the same expression onto her face, then proceeded to attempt to spot Samuel, which she did moments later. She forced herself not to let her jaw drop from her mouth when she saw him. It has been the first time in days since they had interacted , as they were not only in different years, but different houses as well. She locked onto his gaze as he approached her, and the blush she had come to know all too well flushed back ion to her cheeks as he stopped in front of her, complimented her appearance, then presented her with a single white rose. Hallie hesitated for a split second, finding herself seemingly hypotized by his hazel eyes, then gladly accepted the beautiful flower.
"Thank you," She countered warmly, gripping the flower in one hand and placing her other into his arm as they began their walk outside. "You look very handsome yourself. Honestly, I never new a boy could dress so nicely," Hallie then giggled as they crossed over the threshhold of the school. Her sights immediately landed on a bright, shiny car in front of both of them. With a gasp, she pulled her hand away from his arm, and cupped both hands over her mouth in surprise. Cars were all the rage in the country now, and despite living in a family that could actually afford a vehicle of they so desired, her parents had refused to spend their money on the new contraption. So, for her, riding in a car would be a completely new experience for her.
"Oh, gods, I'm so excited!" She then squealed in anticipation, shooting a grin to Samuel in the process. "We're going to ride in it, right?"

"Oh," he chuckled, glancing down modestly in response to her compliment. "Thank you. I only hope I look classy enough to belong with a radiant vision such as you." As they walked out into the warm early evening, Hallie responded to the sight of the car with squealing excitement, which Samuel found adorably amusing. He smiled broadly in response to her grin. "Of course! I am going to drive us. But don't worry, I've had plenty of experience. We'll be perfectly safe." With that, he opened the passenger-side door and gestured for her to get in.
As he started up the car, Samuel dove into questions about how Hallie's school week had gone. Really, it didn't matter so much what he asked so long as he got her talking about herself and then asked relevant follow-up questions. That was the way to a woman's heart: Talk to her. Pretend that every little thing she said was incredibly fascinating. Respond not only to the interesting things, but to all the things that she found interesting.
Above all, as his father had taught him, keep her from asking about your family history. Lie when necessary.
"So, how did things go with the transfiguration formulae in class? Were you better prepared than your classmates?"

As she settled herself into the seat of the car, Hallie could feel a mix between excitement and anxiety swirl in her stomach. Not only was this her legitimately first time in a car, but she was entrusting Samuel with her life by him actually being the one to drive it. As he sat down beside her and toggled the gears a bit, she gave him a nervous smile before they pulled away and took off at a mild pace. Her hand found the side of the door and she gave it a good squeeze, fighting the anxiety that was determined to reveal itself on her face. She composed herself however and laughed a bit as they drove over a small bump, and then turned onto the main road.
For a minute, she had realized that although she had practically told Samuel all there was to know about herself, she barely knew anything about him...other than he was a perfect gentleman, obviously. This thought dwindled in her brain for a bit, and she then tilted her head to the side, watching him drive and silently wondering more about him. What was his family like? We they, indeed just like her own, or were they different? What did he like and dislike? What were the dreams and passions for his life? These questions and more clouded her mind for a while, and it wasn't until he addressed her did she realize what exactly he was asking.
"Oh, yes," Hallie nodded enthusiastically. "More than prepared, actually. In fact,c my professor had to tell me to stop raising my hand when she asked questions, because she knew I'd get them right!" With a laugh, and then a pause, she leaned her hand over to softly squeeze his shoulder. "I cannot take all the credit though. I had a great teacher."
After ten minutes or so, they pulled into the front of the theatre, and as they got out, Hallie briefly admired the architecture of the building itself. The inside of the lobby was even more bright and beautiful, and the amount of bustling people was almost overwhelming. Samuel had no problem maneuvering his way through the crowds however, so she took his arm once more as they entered the small, quaint theatre and chose two seats near the back.
"This is nice," she commented, smoothing out her dress and placing her purse and rose into an empty chair next to her before sitting down. "It's so quiet and dark in here."

Samuel grinned over at his lovely date. "That's marvelous! I am so glad to hear it. They are truly the worst part of sixth year." That, at least, was completely honest of him. Those damned formulae had kept him awake late into the night, for several weeks. They were absurd, but his father had told him: You must be the most brilliant. It is ridiculous to hear that some Italian girl has higher grades than you do. So, he'd stayed up. What other option was there? Samuel couldn't disappoint his father. His whole life was centered on impressing his father, keeping his love, proving that he could be just as powerful.
Then she squeezed his shoulder - she initiated contact! - and his nerves fired all over again. She complimented him, and his slightly embarrassed response was almost genuine. "Well, I am happy to have been of service. I don't think I am particularly skilled as a teacher, though. I am only patient with those I care for." Brilliant. Wonderful. The greatest response he'd ever come up with.
The car ride was wonderful, and Samuel couldn't stop smiling as he sent the vehicle off with the valet and went inside with the beautiful Hallie on his arm. He bought their tickets and they entered the theater, sitting next to each other, and she mentioned how quiet and dark it was, which made Samuel think that, perhaps, she would be easier to convince later than he'd originally assumed. "Oh, yes," he replied, "it is perfect for this." He twined his fingers together with hers. "And this," and he lifted her hand to his lips to kiss it. "I am excited for this film. It is supposed to be lovely."
Dull, boring, a waste of time except for the fact that it would lead to the actual loveliness later ...

As she settled into her chair besides Samuel, she allowed for him to take her hand and lace their fingers together-a notion that, probably didn't seem like much to a normal individual, but for Hallie, it was a sign of affecfion. Affection was never something her parents willingly gave, though she had always been sure of their love for her. Samuel was proving to be the complete opposite of how they were...and ultimately, that was what she wanted. Someone who would be so unlike her parents and someone who would mold her into her own person. In her eyes, the boy beside her really couldn't be any better.
A large crowd managed to file into the theatre after them, but Hallie was relieved to see that despite the amount of people, they were still quite spread around and in a way, alone. The film began shortly after, and as the lights dimmed, she dipped lower in her chair in order to get a bit more comfortable, making sure to keep her gentle grip on Samuel's hand steady.
The film itself was brilliant and she enjoyed every minute of it. It was a bit violent, but considering it was a mob-centered story, she supposed it was to be expected. The love story included in the film was lovely though, and by the end of it, Hallie found herself particularly moved. It was amazing what a film could do to a person without so much as actually saying a single word.
After making their way back out of the theatre and towards the car, Hallie quickly pulled out a light jacket from her bag and wrapped it around herself as she climbed into the front seat. The night air had cooled considerably since just a couple of hours earlier, and though it wasn't cool by any means, the last thing she wanted was for a part of her dress to fly up and cause a "scene", as her father would say.
"That was wonderful," she told Samuel, moving strands of her hair around to sit behind her shoulders. "It really was." With a pause, she looked around as he began to out of their previous parking spot, then diverted her attention back to him in a matter of seconds.
"Where are we off to now?" Hallie inquired, her eyes big and shiny with curiosity.

The film, which began with an assassination, turned out to be more entertaining than Samuel had expected, which was a pleasant surprise. He held Hallie's hand throughout, occasionally trailing the fingers of his other hand along her knuckles, tracing meaningless patterns on the softness of her skin. The fragrance of her hair was intoxicating, and as the film drew to a close, Samuel found himself wired with anticipation. Another step closer, all in service of the grand plan.
As they left the theater, Hallie complimented the film, and Samuel was already prepared with his response. "Oh, yes. True love won out in the end, didn't it? It leaves one with a sort of ... optimism, I suppose. I am glad you enjoyed it."
Always playing the gentlemanly role, he helped her into the car before heading over to the driver's side, straightening his bow tie as he went. A glance in the mirror - god, how he loved his own reflection - and then they were off to their next stop. "There is a bluff overlooking the river. I like to go there on clear nights such as this and admire the stars. How the constellations cross the sky, and the pure quiet that comes from being away from town ... it is my favorite place, and I would like to share it with you."
Ten minutes later, they were stopping at the top of a grassy hill. It truly was a beautiful place, affording a view of the massive sky and the river sprinkled with reflected starlight. Samuel turned off the car, then looked over at Hallie, a soft smile curling the corners of his lips. He stroked a few fingers through her hair. "Would you like to walk, or to sit here?"

So, he was planning on taking her to a spot that was special to him? Hallie was flattered. She wondered just how many people knew of this place; probably not many, considering Samuel seemed to be the kind of boy who didn't open up to just anyone. Everyone had a place where they chose to go when they wanted to think, or be alone, or sometimes...just to enjoy nature. Hers was, of course, Celestial Lake. The serenity and beauty of it was her kind of therapy, so she could completely understand why Samuel had chosen a similar place.
After a while, they pulled forward to a slow stop, and the roar of the engine slowly faded into the night air. Hallie's eyes traveled everywhere in a mater of seconds-over the outlook and down into the sparkling water, then to the moon, which gave off a bright, radiant light, and then finally, to the stars above their heads. She gasped, realizing just how noticeable and beautiful they were. There were so many of them, and oh, they were beautiful. Each one twinkled and shimmered against the black backdrop of the sky, and she couldn't help but marvel over it all. The country was a far better place than the business's and chaos of any town or city.
Drawing her attention back to him, he she felt him tug ever so lightly on the ends of her hair, and she offered him a smile before shrugging her shoulders. "I don't care at all," Hallie told him honestly. "This is, after all, your spot. You know it better than I do. I'm really open to anything."

"All right," he replied with a grin. "Well, how about this." There was a blanket in the back seat of the car, and Samuel reached for it, tugging it up and into his lap. "We can sit and look at the stars. It is truly stunning, isn't it? It always makes me wonder about my place in the universe."
on top of the world, watching it burn
He got out of the car, went around to the passenger side, and took Hallie's hand to help her out before guiding her to a perfect spot where the grass was soft and the view was incredible. Samuel spread the blanket out on the grass and sat down, completely wired with anticipation. Here it was: showtime. "I discovered this place in my fourth year. Of course, then I had to walk here, and it was quite a trek. The perfect distance for a soothing car ride and then an evening of being calm, contemplating."
boozing it up
"I haven't brought anyone else here." Now, this was actually true. He'd been saving it for a night such as this.

Hallie welcomed the idea of sitting in the grass to look at the stars. There was just something more natural and peaceful about the whole thing instead of just sitting in a car. So, with that in mind, she willingly complied, and allowed Samuel to escort her to the spot where he had picked. As she sat down carefully, she noted the cool grass against her skin, then made sure to pull the he, of her dress down as far as it would go once settling herself against the blanket. She had to continue being the lady she was raised to be, didn't she?
After placing get her hands neatly in her lap, she grinned, then looked up at the sky once more. There were literally thousands of tiny blinking stars above them, and in that moment, she realized just how small the two of them really were.
"Really?" She asked, glancing at Samuel for a moment. "I'm the first person to know of your secret little spot? How flattering."

"Really and truly," Samuel replied. "After all, such a stunning spot requires equally stunning company. The way the starlight illuminates your skin ... and your hair ... "
She had sat down at a ladylike distance from him, but Samuel had no problem closing that distance. Now was his moment, and he felt impatient with all the required wooing. It was bad enough that he would have to take the encounter slowly; he was finished talking.
He lifted a hand to trail his fingers gently through her hair by the base of her neck. "I am honored that you are here with me." Then he leaned forward to press several slow kisses against her cheek, each one a bit closer to her mouth, paying careful attention to her demeanor, searching for clues as to how she was receiving his advances. It would be crucial not to move too quickly, after all.
"Hallie," he breathed against the corner of her mouth before placing a kiss directly on her lips.

In a matter of seconds, the once peaceful, quiet air that was in between them grew into compliments and sweet words coming from Samuel's voice. Because of this, Hallie smiled rather coyly at him, as a soft pink blush filled the hollows of her cheeks. He really was lovely, what with how he had treated her over the past week and a half or so. How could she be so incredibly lucky? This was, quite literally, her first date, and it seemed, at least to her, that nothing could be going better.
After listening to him vocalize his gratefulness, Hallie noticed him lean in to her every so closely while feeling his hand rest against the base of her neck. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she felt her breathing quicken just a hair as he closed the distance between the two of them with a long, tender kiss on her cheek. She kept herself still as his mouth then moved to the corner of her own, and that was when she knew what was coming.
He wants to kiss me.
A simple kiss wasn't too hard to give him, was it? After all, Hallie thought silently, he had done many, any things for her as of lately. The least she could do was reciprocate any kind of physical affection.
So, as she closed her eyes in anticipation, she felt his mouth press against her own, and she returned the kiss gently. Butterflies began to flutter in her stomach with each passing second, and she hoped that she wasn't disappointing him.

So far, so good. She was kissing him back, and though she was hesitant and shy, she was clearly willing to go at least this far. He deepened the kiss, parting her lips with his tongue as his hands went to her cheeks, gentle caresses designed to soothe and lull her into a trusting state. Though clearly inexperienced, she tasted good and she took cues well, which was exactly what Samuel wanted. He wasn't interested in being bossed around by some woman. Encounters such as this should be run by his lust, and his alone. Her lust - or lack thereof - was secondary, of very little importance except in its capacity to keep him from his goal.
Well, he would not be kept from his goal tonight. He'd bought the tickets and sat through the lovey-dovey shit and now he was going to experience his preferred brand of "romance."
Moving ever so slowly, Samuel shifted to tilt Hallie backward, laying her down on the soft blanket but not putting any of his weight on her just yet. Soft, gentle, sensitive kisses, hands on her cheeks, and then he allowed his right hand to meander downward, stroking her neck, and then her collarbone, and creeping closer and closer to the neckline of her dress.

Well, the girls at her school had, in fact, not been mistaken. Samuel definitely knew what he was doing, and he seemed to be, at least to her, a fantastic kisser. Hallie sat there, allowing him to deepen their embrace by feeling the tip of his tongue inch itself into her mouth. This was when she began to feel not only butterflies plague her stomach, but dizziness filled her head. Everything seemed to be moving around and around and around, and to keep herself from falling over, she reached up to latch a hand to the base of his own neck to steady herself. The uneasy, wavy feeling was a bit unnerving, but she attempted to ignore it as she continued to kiss him as well as she knew how.
She wasn't sure how much time had passed, but after a few moments, she felt herself slowly being pushed backwards onto the blanket, where she quickly settled onto her back. Her eyes danced across his face, and she couldn't help noticing the way his eyes seemed to drip with some kind of emotion she couldn't place. Once more, he brought his lips down to mesh against hers. His motions were fervent and slightly impatient, and she felt one of his hands rub against her neck, then slide slowly farther and farther down the front of her dress. After feeling the tips of his fingers reach the low-cut neckline of her dress, she gasped against his mouth, then reached up to push him slightly back.
"Samuel, no," Hallie told him, shaking her head. "This...isn't the right spot...people could pull up and see us at any moment."
