"I think you are over selling me Knight. I can sing, I can flirt, I can give amazing head... and that's about it." She said with a shrug. At this point in her life it was something she came to terms with. Maybe if she didn't drop out of school so young she could have made something of herself, but no. She chased an impossible dream that is fame and no wanting to be poor and russian anymore. "I'm twenty one about to turn twenty two at the end of december, but I'm old for my age. Let's just leave it at that Knight." She said taking another long drag. It feels like she had seen so much and done so much in only twenty two short years....
"Who says good men do things? Sometimes being a good man is knowing when to fucking try. And you're trying now, so you are a good man. Not to mention if you treat what's her name half as well as you treated me she would be a lucky woman." She said lightly punching him in the shoulder. Oh Knight, so scared to grow up, yet the desire to was strong. "Isn't that what everyone does Knight? Last time I check there is no book on how to be a normal functioning human being. So you just gotta try and try until you get something right. Tends to involve alot of falling down."
She couldn't help but laugh and sigh some at the thought of Kyra and Fin, part of her almost wished she was there to see it. "At least they are cute in a odd way. And fucking made for each other." When he brought up that she deserved a good man Ana couldn't help but look down and shake her head. "You would think but former whores don't really get good men, they get whatever's left Knight. So I might deserve better but I am not banking on getting better. Thanks though..."
At very least within the next breath he was able to get her laughing. "Who fucking knows Knight, I barely remember those days myself." She couldn't help but smirk when he asked if she fucked Charlie and she nodded. "He paid well and I had just finished working for that Japanese man who took me as his pet. I was hoping I could make him into a repeat sort of thing." Well nice to know there were pools involving her work. But back then she was far less picky about who fucked her. So long as they paid her fee. "There's not much to the affair. Came to me after the show, paid me, got him off and he was gone before the sun came up." She was quiet for a while after this, thinking to herself about her life, the things she had done and the things she didn't do...
"Do you ever stop to think that we are all whores in some way? We just sell different parts of ourselves?" She asked looking up at him before taking another drag. "You don't have to answer that, I was just thinking..."

"If I am, and I highly doubt it, it's probably about time someone did. Even if I don't know anything about the last of the three." She was a good friend. Ana always neglected to add that onto her list of virtues. And her blunt sense of humour, which he had always appreciated, even when it was levelled against him. The rest, well the rest was a mystery. She was quite the secretive person, really, and he was sure that he didn't know everything that had happened to her. "Twenty one. Holy shit Ana. You're only as old now as I was when I met you." He'd been so full of hope and optimism at twenty-one, bright, cheerful, nothing to his name but piano skills and a great smile. And yet here she was, worn out, tired, beaten black and blue by their lifestyle worse than he had.
"Twenty one... Merlin, Ana, you can't keep doing this for the next six years. It'll drive you mad. Even in Camden. No, we've gotta get you into something else. Something that'll build you up, not tear you down." He was thinking, he was thinking hard but it was difficult in his already emotional state. Where could he pull strings to get Ana a job she'd both enjoy, and wouldn't kill her before she hit thirty. None of the hard-hitters would take her on, to get there they already had their magic combination of voices and instruments. A solid, stable group was what he needed to find, some place that'd have a regular singer and wouldn't even think to hit her backstage. Places like those were for the most part still slightly above his paygrade, but surely he could find one. He had to.
What kind of a good man didn't do things? There were so many injustices and shitty things going on in the world that no truly good man who didn't go out of his way to right some of those wrongs was a good man after all. He found that he couldn't bring himself to reply to what she had said, the idea of him being a good man conflicted too much within him. "I wish there was a book. It'd make all this crap so much easier to deal with." Maybe he wouldn't be such a screw-up if he'd had a book to guide him. Knowing himself, though, even if there was a book he would never have gotten around to reading the damn thing.
"Bloody carrot, could barely believe my eyes." At least Knight knew which guys he'd stolen the money from now, instead of it just being the chance of money to a half dozen of them. It was probably a good thing those guys wouldn't ever find out, better for him if they just pretended it was the others who had been cheated out of it. "I'm a broke-ass pianist, Ana. I'd have sold anything of me to get ahead. If nothing else, we all sell our time to those that care little for it."

"Well that's what happens when you spend you whole life running from something Knight. You grow up too fast." She said finishing her cigarette and then lighting up another one. How did this conversation come back around to her? Wasn't this suppose to be about him and his love life? Not her struggling to get by and trying to make her own life work. "Yeah I was... I think I had just turned fourteen when I met you." She said smiling softly and shaking her head. She knew the look he was giving her, how could she have burned herself out this fucking young? Well she didn't really know... just seemed like she's been going and going and going, and running... And now she's just sort of had enough.
"Yeah but Knight... I don't know if I want something stable." She said inhaling and running her hand through her hair. Knight wanted to see her settle down and build herself back up but... She didn't know if she wanted that, or even needed that. "I like where I am, it's starting to feel like something. Even if it's not stable it's something. I don't need stable I just need something that isn't gonna drive me into running away again you know? Am I even making sense anymore?" It didn't seem like she was, another deep drag of her cigarette as she closed her eyes. "You know tonight isn't suppose to be about me, it's suppose to be about you!" She said hitting him lightly again. "Stop trying to make it about me!"
She couldn't help but laugh when he wished there was a book about life. "Don't we all Knight, maybe we should write it." Because that would be best seller. A book written by two people that would probably not make it to fouty. And if they do it's by the grace of god they still probably couldn't give any good advice.
"Yup a Carrot." She said laughing some and pulling her knees to her chest. She liked what he had to say, selling time to those they care about. Fuck she needed to do more of that. Spending time with people she cared about verse selling her to people that just wanted to use her. "Well I spend time with you, does that count?"

"Didn't you realise Ana? This is what happens when you start growing up, you begin to worry about your friends whose lives have been more tumultuous than they deserve. I don't want to go into the Underground one day to find Finley in tears, only to find out you've been murdered by one of the fucking gangs around here." She'd been fourteen. Fourteen. The idea was entirely foreign to him now, not that he'd cared in the moment. Underaged girls hadn't exactly been something that stood out back then, there were so many of them. He'd made a point at the time of not going after any of them, he'd always thought that he was better than that, unlike some of his fellows. But he'd been very willing to get into Ana's pants, if things had gone another way he'd have been just as bad as the rest of them. Fourteen.
"Why am I not surprised? Of all people, it'd have to be the two of us that find something to hold onto just as everything around us starts to fall apart." And they were definitely falling apart. For a town of this size to have its homicide rate spike so dramatically was a poor sign of things to come. Who knows how long they had until things were on fire, and wizards were duelling in the streets? Knight didn't need that in his life, but something warned him that he wouldn't be able to pry Suki away from it all even if he gave it his all. And she was someone he did need in his life. "Tonight isn't about you, or me, or anything as simple as that. It's about growing up, giving up on dreams and choosing to stay. Fuck it, but we're actually choosing to stay."
He shook his head slowly. "If you were gonna write an instruction manual for life, you'd want to know more about it than our sorry arses." They were certainly a sorry duo, always somehow fucking up when things were going well for them, finally. Of course others had it worse, but that hardly meant he couldn't feel sorry for himself sometimes, right? "I hope I count. Otherwise that's how many years as friends wasted?"

"I'm not gonna be murder by fucking gangsters, Knight." She said rolling her eyes and shaking her head. He had a point, and after the whole poisoning herself thing she realized how much she had to leave behind now. In a weird way it was like she had a fucked up little family here, people she cared about and didn't want to see hurt because of her. And even the thought of Finn in tears because of her... again. It hurt her chest and made her heart fill with dread. Would Knight cry too? She had never seen him upset over anything other than not being able piano and well.. This girl that got into his heart. "If anything they will rough me up a little bit and that's all." She said smiling softly over at him and sighing, at least that is what she was telling herself.
That made her laugh though, sounded right. Walls were tumbling down in this city and they were here and they had reasons to not tumble with them. They had reasons and goof fucking reasons to grow up and not leave and it was way scarier than she thought. Honestly she thought she was coping worst than Knight was with the idea giving that it was only now that this was the real root of all her problems... Well that and the self respect thing but that was a different beast, something to be talked about another day that wasn't today. She sighed and finished er cigarette before getting up and getting another drink. Fuck it if she was gonna have to grow up tonight she wanted one more night of fun. "Speaking of growing up does that mean I get to know your real name now? Because I feel like if this night is the night of growing up I deserve to know what your birth name is and don't worry... I won't tell a soul."
"I don't even wanna count at this point. Just make me feel old and I'm not even old." She said sitting back down and sipping at the newest glass of whiskey she just poured herself. "I think it counts for alot really. Like right now... Keeping me all sane and stuff." She said smiling and raising her glass to him. "How about a toss then... to tonight I guess."
