Emyr Sayer
"The line between terrible and brilliant is very thin, Emyr," she replied jauntily, before the feelings and the faltering. Could the other students really be saying such things about her? It was unimaginable ... but not nearly as unimaginable as what happened next.
He caught her, responded to her light-hearted threat, and then kissed her. Kissed her! She had just a moment to figure out what was going on before she tilted her chin, closed her eyes, and it happened. Well, how was she supposed to do this? Just follow along? Yes, that made sense ... she moved her lips in tandem with his, stepping a little bit closer even though her knees suddenly felt unreliable and her stomach was filled with butterflies. When he stopped, she was flushed, nervous, exceedingly pleased, and utterly speechless, which did not happen often.
Fortunately, he had started talking again, so she had something to respond to. Huge grin on her face, cheeks burning red, she offered, "Well, passing quizzes is ... um ... always a good thing." Had she just said 'um'? Maureen didn't say 'um'! She was articulate and clever and didn't have to go fumbling for words! Wow, first kisses were ... wow.
"I think we can go half-and-half on the blame, to be fair. Um." UGH. She'd done it again! "Do you want to dance more, or ... ?"
Or go practice that kissing thing? I swear I can do it better!

"Not when it comes to puns." There was no thin line between terrible and brilliant with a pun, a well-crafted pun was terrible and brilliant at the same time, a poorly crafted pun was just sad.
Merlin, but it took every ounce of self-restraint that Emyr had not to comment on her bright red cheeks. He was starting to think that this might have actually been her first kiss, which was a shock in and of itself. World-wise he might think himself, but it wasn't like he made a habit of waltzing into towns, dancing pretty maidens off of their feet and then stealing their first kisses. In fact, he had only kissed a couple of girls before Maureen, though he had practised with them quite a bit.
"It's a good way to start things, yes." It must have been her first, there was no way you would be this thrown off by it after a dozen, or more. And bloody hell was it cute, he could hardly believe how endearing her attempts to remain cool and collected were. The brighter she grew, the more determined he became to stay composed and witty. One of them had to, and he couldn't expect her to do so. Though he could already feel something niggling at the back of his mind, and important thought that wanted to make its way to the fore and ruin everything. Emyr suppressed it as best he could, but it would force its way back before long.
Half and half seemed very generous to Emyr, but he wasn't about to argue the point. "Tell you what. I'll take four sevenths, and we'll call it done." No one could claim that he wasn't up for a good bit of bartering. "I'm rather interested in what was going to follow that 'or'," he admitted. "It all depends. Are you going to fall over if I kiss you again?"

"Oh I see." She said with a smile. She could do this, soon enough she could speak to him in Norwegian. How wonderful would that be? Then he would be more comfortable around her, then maybe that dark part of him wouldn't feel the need to come out as much. Her ears perked up as he asked for something but when he said nevermind her brow knit together and she frowned. "Hey what is it? You can tell me." She said taking his hand and giving it a small squeeze. He was nervous, but happy. She could live with nervous and happy.
"I've never spoke to a ghost...Could you... meet me one?"
Bella couldn't help it, her eyes lit up and she was on her feet. "Of course! This is the best time of the year to meet a whole host of Ghost! In fact.." She pulled him onto his feet and picked up the hem of her dress, making her way out of the hall and down towards a corridor where a woman in a red dress was singing. "Arne this is my friend. The red lady."

Vinayak Dar
“It depends on your definition of good.” Viola was quick to say, something of habit. To shrug off the comment, she followed by drinking some of her punch. Wetting her lips, collecting some of the sweet liquid still lingering, Viola sighed. “But good company, after all, is good company.” She laughed quietly.
She wasn’t one to converse frequently. It was all small talk and, as it turns out, small talk isn’t much of her interest. Lovely weather we’re having. How about yourself? What about you? It all just seemed so unimportant, irrelevant. There was so much to do and say with such little time, why fill it up with such mediocre topics?
Nodding slowly, she chuckled. Sometimes silence is nice, she thought, but was afraid of coming across as rude if having decided to say it out loud. “Comfort zone is getting in the way again,” Viola joked, flashing Vinayak a sympathetic grin. “Charms, huh? I personally enjoy Herbology. It’s harmless, y’know?” Viola raised an eyebrow.

Well that seemed like a quick shift in tone, but he nodded and smiled some. "Yeah I know." He watched her start to walk away but before she could get out of earshot he said. "Hey... You know I love you Hallie." A small smile and she was gone, probably off to find Aedan or something. A name that just made his blood boil now. Not even because of what happen in the dining hall, whatever that was him being stupid and didn't matter now. All that matter was between the O'Brien's and the Antonucchi's he lost a best friend and he might lose a cousin. Maybe he was dwelling on the issue but it was all he could do! All that was left to do was dwell..
No plan! He was going to come up with some sort of plan right? He had too really... No one else was going to do it. And while he was no fighter he was the top student in the school, he didn't have to be a fighter just good enough at magic too...
Oh... Oh! That was a great idea! An amazing idea and he had to tell someone! Vinayak! He would tell him and it would be...
Why was he and that girl laughing together? Why did it look like they were making flirty eyes at each other? Okay ideas can wait why was that girl smiling at him like that? Maybe Theo was overreacting, okay he knew he was totally overreacting but still, Vinayak was his and he refused to let any little girl steal his man from him. He didn't mean for the jealousy in him to flare up but it did and he was slowly making his way over to the boy and the girl.

"Well, you see?" Maureen offered, trying at least for the moment to deflect some of the focus away from her extremely inexperienced blushes and nerves. "You must be intelligent to be passing sixth-year quizzes with only a little bit of extra tutoring after going so long without school. It's very impressive." Maybe now he would blush. It was only fair.
He offered to take four-sevenths of the blame, and that got a genuine laugh out of her. "Well, all right then. I can take that deal." It still didn't seem quite fair, but what was the point of arguing when there was more kissing to be done? She knew she could get better at it, and quickly!
Of course, then he asked about what would have followed the 'or ... ' and whatever normal complexion she might have regained was completely obliterated. Raising one delicate eyebrow, Maureen tilted her head and smiled, squeezing his hands. "I can't fall over if I'm holding onto you, can I?"
Goodness, wasn't that just ... wanton! She was both shocked and pleased with herself for saying it. Now, if only he didn't decide she was simply too embarrassing ...

"Not when it feels like stabbing at a piece of paper in pitch darkness to get even one question right. There's all this assumed knowledge, for everything, and I have none of it. Imagine trying to argue European politics in Russian when you've never been to Russia, nor do you speak the language. That's what school is like for me." His strange metaphors took him long enough to think up that his cheeks barely even warmed at her generous compliment. Emyr was doing well at this whole lark, much to his own surprise. If he didn't get killed, he might actually have to thank Knight for forcing him to come to this bizarre school.
"Pleasure doing business with you," he grinned. It was a shame that her laugh ever had to end, really, but he imagined it would get boring after a while. Laughter was a commodity made precious by its rarity, like most commodities. Emyr had never taken an economics class, and until he did he decided not to embarrass himself with economics metaphors. Just a bad idea in general, really.
He laughed warmly and shook his head. "Hard to deny that kind of iron-clad logic." For good measure, he took half a step closer and kissed her again, more carefully this time. He reckoned that he had already put himself to shame, everything about this kiss was deliberate, an elegant movement that would have caused even Casanova to blush enviously. Emyr broke it off just before his lungs were going to start protesting, and swept her back up into the dance, rejoining the swirling movement of those around them. "We'd better dance a little more, before you convince me to do something I shouldn't." What that might be he didn't know, but it certainly sounded mighty interesting.
