How long had it been? It felt like ... well ... Pietro couldn't determine how much time he thought had passed. He remembered the beating ... he remembered someone screaming his name ... he remembered opening his eyes in the hospital ...
But he'd been floating in a haze of medication for ... for how long? How long? And now that he was actually wondering this ... what did it mean? Was he being weaned off the potions? That was probably a good thing. He needed to go get this sorted out. He needed to go get his revenge. He needed to ...
He sat up in his bed, gazing around in confusion. His head seemed to bob up and down, detached from his neck, just floating like a balloon above his shoulders. He looked at his hands and they were the wrong shapes. That was odd. What had happened to his hands? They were shimmering before his eyes.
No, it didn't matter. He knew where he needed to be and it wasn't here. He was fine. He could sit up. That meant he could walk. That meant he could leave. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, placed his feet firmly on the floor, and tried to stand up.
Unfortunately, his balance was nonexistent and he just fell back onto the bed.
"Damn it!"

Suki walked up, clipboard at hand and her blood-stained white medical dress hanging down a little bit past her knees, her small snowy owl at her outstretched arm as it flew by and perched there, waddling up to her shoulder, Suki dropped her arm to her side, untying the letter with one hand from the owl's leg. It looked awkward, but she wasn't in the mood to look pretty seeing as she was headed for her oldest brother's hospital room. She tore at the envelope, reading at it quickly before ripping it up and throwing it in the nearby trash can as she strode further on. It was nothing more than a rare letter from River, confirming to her that he was coming by right now to check on his brother. She motioned for the owl to fly away back to the owlery for the day.
She was so glad she left her bag in his room that had her spare medical clothing, she always brought one because blood was more of a common occurrence to her despite being situated at spell damage, she was barely situated at her own floor and was more hands-on with the surgeries and what not. It was very stressful, so stressful Pierro and River can go shut the fuck up if they want to talk about stressful jobs. They deal with kids, starting their lives, she was dealing with people struggling to cling to their lives, and she was the one making sure they stay alive no matter how impossible it is.
Suki sighed, Pietro promised not to get himself into shit and fuck himself up again, she was really worried about her older brother. She wished he was more cautious on getting hurt, not for his sake, but because Suki hated seeing her brothers getting hurt because of their work. It was never ending, they get hurt and she has to see them and check up on them as they suffer in pain frequently in the hospital rooms. It didn't help that work was getting stressful enough for her, she just got of a stressful open surgery just now, hence the blood on her dress. The patient survived despite the blood that they lost. Thank Merlin for the blood-replenishing potion.
She entered in the room just in time to see Pietro bust his ass on the bed. Suki flared her nostrils, "Pietro! Not even a day conscious and you're already stirring trouble!" Suki didn't even care he was thankfully conscious, she was already mad at his attempts trying to get up when he shouldn't be up. "Down! Down! Lay back down properly!" Suki was snapping at him, which in private wasn't uncommon. She tended to worry a lot for her brothers. She moved to lay her clipboard down to the nearby chair where her bag was as well. She wiped her hands down at the sides of her dress, then helping her brother out like the good little sister she was. Of course an annoyed expression was on her face.

Suki. God damn it, his sister had to see him like this? His little baby sister? Where the fuck was River?
Shit, his head was spinning. Everything was shimmering now, swimming before his eyes the way his hands had been.
Pietro began to scowl, but quickly reconsidered when he felt the motion tug at his enormous facial wound. Finley and his trench knife ... Reid and her wand ... fucking bitch Nixie ...
Serafina's voice ... oh, God, Serafina ...
He clutched suddenly at Suki's hand, trying to hold her still so that she would listen to what he had to say. Unfortunately, his speech was slurred. What was wrong with his lips? Why were they going numb?
"No ... listen, Suki ... I have to take care of things. I have to find her ... I have to make sure they didn't hurt her ... she's not safe. I need Uncle, I need him ... to assign bodyguards ... I need to protect her, I need ... need to ... Suki, where is she?"

Suki suddenly had her hands held by Pietro, and he seemed unable to talk, only hearing bits and pieces slurring, barely even comprehensible. He was really in a bad shape, and he couldn't even speak at this point. "Uncle? Hurt who? Who's her, why do you need to protect her?" Suki found herself awfully uninformed of most everything of his situation than she had thought she was. Who was this 'her' he was speaking of and why was 'she' so important? She kinda also frowned, was someone more important than her in her brother's life now?
Well fine, she supposed, he's not that important in her life now anyways... Besides, she shouldn't be jealous, its unbecoming of her. River can be her favourite now, that way she knew she'll always be the most important girl in his life, the man can't love any women after all, or so she thought as of now. But even so, she shouldn't be thinking about it, its foolish of her to despise another like this, it wasn't her. Maybe this was just for a mission or something, right? Suki was the kind girl who loved everybody, never envious, always proper. She convinced herself to maintain it, it wouldn't look good on the family even though she tried to steer away as much as possible.
"You're resting right now whether you like it or not, you can't protect if you're not in a good shape," was all she said as she tucked him back in and went to get her spare dress from her bag, "River will be here in a few," she said sharply as she fished for her dress in said bag, a frown gracing her face as it always did.

Was River worried? Yeah, he was so fucking worried, he was just so broken-hearted, not that he would let it show. When he saw him the first time, River looked about so tragic. Broke down, back as if he was seeing his own self tortured, he saw himself in Pietro right then, how physically tortured he was, no one, not even his brother, should experience that kind of pain. He knew with that, comes emotional pain as well. He never wanted in life for him to experience what he had, and he tried his best to keep that from him. But this one, this was completely his fault. What kind of brother was he for not protecting him from the harm?
River hated himself for it.
He found himself striding and walking as fast as socially acceptable to visit Pietro, he wanted to see him, and stay. He didn't have teaching duties and even then he was given a pardon. River wanted nothing more than to kill whomever did this to his brother. To see the pain flash across the faces of those who hurt them. He wanted to see them all, all that looked gory and bloody. River would want to make sure he was the one that did it, he was a mad man, he wanted revenge, and revenge was a promise he intended to keep, the only thing setting him back was Uncle Enzo...
River entered the room to see his sister whom he had not seen in so long, hearing how she just scolded Pietro once again, he looked at the blonde, giving her a nod to greet her. Suki gave him a snobbish huff before she took her clothes off her bag. His relationship with Suki... Well, it wasn't as close as something she had with Pietro, but River cared for his sister a lot. Like so much she possibly scared any man in Cascade who tried to look at her in 'that' way back when she was still studying there.
He looked at his brother, relief in his face to see him doing fine, but he didn't smile. He only called his name, "Pietro."

Suki was annoyed with him, and his brain was too fuzzy to determine why. "Serafina," he replied, his voice coming out as a pathetic whimper. "They told me they would hurt her. And then she came and now they know who she is and they're going to hurt her. Please, Suki ... you're angry ... don't be angry ... just go find her and make her safe ... "
Somewhere, faintly, he understood that this was all drug-induced babbling, that he wasn't making any sense. Maybe Suki didn't even believe that there was such a person as Serafina. After all, their relationship had been a secret. And now she was angry with him ... why was she angry with him?
Pietro gasped, and it hurt his chest, and he could remember the sounds of his bones snapping, and then River was there. Thank God, River, River would go find Serafina and make her safe! River knew that she truly existed!
"River!" he exclaimed, reaching out for his brother's hand, "River, I need ... you have to ... Serafina. Serafina Latini. They are going to hurt her. You have to make sure they don't. You have to make sure she is safe. Please, please, for the love of God, make sure she is safe and don't be angry with me until after you have found her. Please, River, I beg of you ... "

Serafina... So that was her name, how pretty. So... Italian. Suki hated it, goddamnit why can't her name be Italian too? What is this Serafina girl to Pietro's life? Why did Suki feel so affected by this... girl? It wasn't fair, why did suddenly Pietro care about some other girl and not tell her? She sighed, huffing at River then moving to the corner to strip down and change to new clothes. She didn't care that they can see, she didn't care that it was still improper even if they were her brothers. Not that she can say that anymore, not one of them seemed to talk to her much anyways.
She dressed up to her new clothes simply just listening to Pietro talk, being quiet and mostly reserved like the perfect Antonucchi princess that she was. The little blonde princess that everyone loved to either ignore, Suki didn't mind, except when it was her brothers doing the ignoring. She still had the childish trait in her that made her think that the only girl in the world that her brothers should love is her. What a mature 20 year old healer that she was. Just great.
Suki grabbed her discarded clothes and put them in her bag, having to wipe her hand on her handkerchief because they got bloody from holding the clothes. She looked at Pietro, then went to one of the medic counters in the room to make him a quick potion to make him feel better, and not so much crazy as he sounded right then. One of Suki's downfalls was her quick grudge, despite being really sweet and nice to most people she knew, and definitely first impressions were important to her. So men, make a real good one on her.

He was having a lovely evening with his wife when he got the owl. They had just had a wonderful night out, full of wine and a lovely meal and him showing his love in affection and kisses. But then the whole night was ruined with one note telling him what had happen. He knew the O'Brien's wouldn't be quiet for long, he knew they would attack; But Pietro? How did they get to him? He was normally so careful, he was also fighter and so hard to take down. How did he end up in the hospital? Emilio, while being a strong fighter was weak at times. River can let his emotions get the best of him. So if it was either of them he would have expected it. But Pietro... his pride and joy? Maybe he wasn't the man he thought he had grow up to be if he was getting himself into a position where he couldn't fight out of it.
After taking Viitala home and tell her to meet him at the hospital later when he had all the nasty Mafia business taken care off that he didn't want her exposed to, he made his way there. Having quickly found out what room he was in and upon opening the door seeing his niece and nephew; one of whom was lying in a hospital bed and he would have given anything for it to be someone else...
He walked over to Suki, his darling beautiful niece, and gave her a kiss on the head. He knew it must be so hard for her to tend to her brother and he was so proud of her. Then to river as he gently placed a hand on the young man's shoulder before looking at Pietro. Enzo had seen his share of terrible injuries... But these were.... He shook his head and looked at River before asked. "Who did this?" He wanted to know who got the better of the person that was suppose to be his heir... who?

River looked at his brother, and even after all this time, he was still worried for his student?! Did he see the state he was in, what state everyone was in? How demanding of Pietro, to even ask their sister to help him, to stick her neck out for him just for this one girl... River sighed, but it was expected of them, wasn't it? And still, River himself would help him despite because he loved his brother so much, he was willing to do anything for him. He didn't know what to tell him about Serafina, because on one hand he was set to kill... he was set to mutilate and exterminate any person even involve with the suffering of his brother right here.
Then Uncle Enzo came, placing a hand on his shoulder and he looked at his uncle, he must be so furious. So furious, River wished he was the one on the bed instead, then maybe Uncle Enzo wouldn't be as mad. Oh how River wished it was him instead, then maybe Suki wouldn't be as sad, Uncle Enzo wouldn't be as furious as he might be right now, and Pietro wouldn't be hurt. Damnit, it was his job to protect Pietro! He had answered his Uncle Enzo bitterly, knowing who it was...
"O'Brien scum, one of our teachers, Kyra Reid and Finley O'Brien, Uncle," his tone showed every bit of murderous intent.

Things just continued to get worse. Now Uncle Enzo was here, and he was exceedingly unhappy because Pietro had failed him. Pietro had failed everybody. Maureen, River, Serafina, Suki, Uncle Enzo ... this was the end for him. This was clearly the end.
Pietro squeezed River's hand harder, tugging on his brother's arm to pull him closer and make it clear that he was very serious.
Here it was ... the final nail in his coffin. But he had to do this. The depth of his shame was already horrific, but if he didn't speak up to protect Serafina, he would truly never be able to look at himself in the mirror again.
Pietro gathered all of his mental faculties, pushed as hard as he could through the fog of medication, and stared intently into River's eyes.
"River, you need to listen very seriously. They told me that they were going to torture my sweetheart, but they didn't know who she was until she found me there. With Nixie. Serafina saw us there. Do you understand now? She called my name. She screamed for me. They know. You must find her and protect her. Please, River. I am begging you. She is in danger and I cannot lose her."
Well ... there it was. He was a very, very bad man.
