"What is the matter with you? You are not my father, and therefore you cannot tell me what to do."
Oh, how wrong she was. How very, very wrong.
He had controlled his anger at the time, knowing that it would be inappropriate to pursue the matter so close to his injured cousin. But he hadn't forgotten. Aedan never forgot such slights. Aedan simply held onto them until the time was right to respond.
He was waiting outside her classroom as the day's last period ended. He made sure to keep the anger out of his eyes. After all, he needed to get her someplace far away from the others. It was important to make her think that he was getting ready to apologize. Otherwise, she wouldn't come with him.
So, when Hallie walked out of the classroom, Aedan looked up, brow ever so slightly furrowed, false shame in his eyes. "Hallie," he said, his voice soft as he reached out toward her. "I can't stop thinking about yesterday, and ... the way we spoke to each other. Will you come on a walk with me?"

Hallie forced herself to stay awake during her Arithmancy course, no matter how difficult it was. Not only was the lesson repetitive, but it was boring...and when she got bored, she started to daydream. What exactly was there to daydream about, one may ask? For some, that question would have been difficult to answer...but not for her. Her mind raced with memories and events over the past couple of days, unable to stop reliving everything that had not only happened to her, but to her fellow classmates as well. Everyone had been through hell and no one was sure what the next move was. Would the Headmaster punish another student? Would more professors join in on such barbaric actions? These thoughts and more whizzed in her head as her class finally dismissed, and the room emptied.
She was completely caught off-guard as Aedan met her right past the door of her classroom. Startling slightly, she clutched her books tightly to her chest. As he explained himself, then asked to speak, she hesitated, then looked around to either side of her before nodding her head. Despite what he had said, it had been quite the stressful evening, so she believed it was reasonable to blame the things he had said on his emotions at that time. "Alright," she said softly, offering him a tight smile.

With a smile, Aedan offered Hallie his arm, and they set out on their walk, leaving the school behind, passing the lake, and wandering along the edge of the woods. For several minutes, they walked in silence, and he ran his fingertips over the back of her hand where it rested in the crook of his arm. "You see, yesterday was an incredibly stressful day ... for all of us, of course, but especially for me. My cover blown ... exposed to my enemies, who wish me dead ... and, of course, Maureen. My poor, dear cousin."
His family. His property. An attack on him. Maureen's pain was irrelevant.
"And I sought comfort from the one person I should always be able to turn to. Unfortunately, you did not provide that comfort. It ... upset me."
She had to learn how to respect him in the way she should.
No one was around. Only the trees and the wind and ...
In a sudden motion, Aedan turned the tender stroking on her hand into a violent grip on her wrist, squeezing hard enough to bruise. His voice changed from the tender, fake-apologetic tone to a quiet, angry hiss.
"And I do not think you understand exactly how upsetting it was. I do not think you understand exactly what is owed to a man of my stature."

The walked along the path of the lake together in silence, and for a while, Hallie enjoyed nothing but the feeling of the early fall sun on her skin and the light breeze in her hair. The air smelled of crisp, changing leaves and soft musk, a scent which she found to be extremely inviting. Her grip was soft against his arm, and for a minute or two, she was reminded of the time they were together in the spot Aedan had claimed as his own. She glanced at him them-attempting to read the masking features on his face, and that was when the corners of her lips dipped down into a frown. He was still as handsome and composed as ever, but something she couldn't place lay underneath his emotions.
He then spoke of the stresses he had faced over the past couple of days; with his image and with his family. Hallie knew the trials he faced were not easy ones, and she regretted acting the way that she had while in the he hospital wing. Her mind voluntarily flickered to Maureen, where she silently wondered how the red-haired girl was doing.
In a matter of seconds, she felt his fingers wrap around her wrist in a kind of death-grip, and she gasped in response, pain shooting up and down the length of her arm. "Ouch! Let go," Hallie stopped in her tracks, attempting to free her wrist from him. "You're hurting me! Please, stop."

Instead of releasing her, Aedan simply grabbed her other wrist in a similarly violent manner. A thrill of power ran up his spine as he pulled her closer, ignoring her struggles, relishing the fact that he could hurt her so easily. Women were so delightfully delicate, weren't they? Oh, she would make the perfect mob wife once he had disabused her of the belief that she ought to have power over him.
"You should be glad that I didn't correct your behavior right there in the hospital wing, in front of everybody. You see, I believe that disagreements should be private, and I do not appreciate you challenging me in public." The way he glared at her, the way he squeezed her wrists, everything about Aedan in that moment was pure threat. He didn't back down - he didn't have to! He was the heir to the O'Brien family, and as such, he deserved respect! And if he had to use fear to get it, then he had no problem doing so.
"You made a commitment to me, Hallie. We made commitments to each other. As long as you are sweet and loving to me, I will return the favor. Now have I made myself clear? It is not your place to scold or shame me, and I do not recommend you ever try it again."

Pain continued to shoot up and down the lengths of her arms, and with each passing second, the uncomfortable feeling slowly started to become unbearable. Hallie gasped again as his grip tightened around both of her wrists and then squeezed down, causing the circulation in her hands to slow. She couldn't believe her ears. How could a boy that seemed so sweet, gentle, and genuine be acting like this? Like a controlling monster?
Her eyes caught wind of his own as he spoke down to her, and it was then that, for the first time, she felt something like fear trickle down into her nerves. His eyes were not the ones she had been used to; now, they were nothing hard and cold. His tone was angry and serious, every word coming from his mouth dripped with subtle threats.
After he had finished, there was a tense pause, and she stilled, looking down to the ring that hugged her finger snugly. Normally, she always tried to compose herself as a lady would; as it was how she was raised to be, but being spoken to as she had been sparked something in her. She was sure it wasn't the most smartest thing to do, but she still wanted to be able to stand up for herself.
"And what if I decide to give this back to you?" She asked tentatively, motioning down to the ring itself. "What if I don't want to do this with you anymore?"

Aedan looked down at the ring Hallie had gestured to, releasing her left wrist so that he could run his fingertips across the ring itself. "Well, now," he breathed, still looking at the ring, still infusing his voice with sharp, deadly threat. "That would certainly be a shame. Because, you see, if you broke your commitment to me, I would have no reason to keep the promises I made to you ... one of which was to keep our night under the stars close to my heart. You understand ... "
And then he lifted her hand to his lips, pressing a kiss against the place where the ring rested. The gesture contrasted sharply with the way he was now looking into her eyes, his own dark with anger and possessiveness.
"I couldn't just allow you to go marketing yourself to other men, pretending you are something false ... something pure ... when I know exactly what you look like with only the moonlight clothing you. When I know just how you sound, moaning my name ...
"No reputable man would be caught dead courting damaged goods, Hallie. You know that."

Her eyebrows threaded with anger as he spoke, and slowly, she felt her stomach twist with anxiety once she realized what exactly he was saying. Hallie's expression fell stoic as she silently thought to herself for a minute or two; her eyes trained on him as he raised his mouth to her hand. Why would he do that? How could he be that cruel? Just a little over a week ago, she had no regrets and was practically over the moon and swimming in happiness, and now, the only things that filled her head were disgust and confusion. She pulled herself firmly away from him then, and stepped back, eyeing him with her own kind of fury.
"How could you say such hurtful things to me?" Hallie interrogated him, her eyes narrowed and pointedly on his own. "All I've ever done to you was speak my mind, and you say I can't do that?" She then paused, chewing at her lip to bite back a sob that threatened to break out of her throat. "Why would you do that to me? Tell everyone..." Hallie looked around a bit. "About what happened. I trusted you with everything!" She then paused again, hesitating for a moment, then finally, built up the courage to say what she had wanted to say.
"I don't think you're an honorable man," she spat softly at him. "Honorable men do not speak to women with such awful intentions."
With that, she exhaled loudly, clenched her fists, then attempted to bid him goodnight with a curt, stiff nod. After composing herself, she quickly turned on her heel and started back on the path towards the school.

With a surprising burst of strength, Hallie pulled her arm from his grasp, looking betrayed and disgusted. This was starting to become irritating. Perhaps he had underestimated her.
Ah, well. She would understand, sooner or later, that this world was his to do with as he pleased.
And then ... she turned her back on him. She turned and began to walk away. That simply wasn't done. People did not turn and walk away, not when he hadn't finished speaking yet. Aedan snapped, and the fury overtook him.
"Expelliarmus!" She hadn't expected this, so it was a simple matter to call her wand to him. He caught it as he strode quickly toward her, then reached out with his other arm and entrapped her shoulders, tugging her harshly against him. "I wasn't finished," he hissed into her ear. He dug his fingers into her shoulder, tightening his bicep against her throat. "That means you do not walk away."
With one arm around her upper chest and the other holding his wand to her throat, Aedan set about dragging Hallie into the woods. There was a thicket he knew of, with a clearing in the middle. It was where he liked to practice the darkest magic. Once they'd gotten there, he hurled her to the ground and set about admiring the two wands he held.
"You see, Hallie," he mused, voice deceptively soft, "there are two ways that this can be. We can go out and have lovely evenings at the movies. I can buy you everything your heart desires. You can keep your complaints private, and I will lavish you with affection. Or ... you can play the shrew, and I can ... shall we say ... tame you. Those are your two options ... not to walk away. For, make no mistake, 'I will be master of what is mine own.'"
Aedan took several menacing steps closer, then crouched down, pressing his knee hard against Hallie's stomach, using the weight of his body to apply pressure there. After all, it was important only to bruise the areas that were not often revealed.
"So I suppose you have a choice to make, don't you?"

There was a morbid-kind of amusement in witnessing the tables turn on oneself, and that was what she was going through in that moment. In just a matter of moments, she had decided to stand up towards Aedan; who, in all essence, was a boy who she really didn't know at all. Of course, she had though that she had, but them again, Hallie knew there wasn't pure innocence in anything...at least, not anymore.
She fought, both mentally and psychically. Normally, she would have complied with his wishes, but sorting within her screamed to kick and scream...and oh, she tried to. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. She wasn't a match for him, and any normal-thinking person would have known that. Why did she think any differently? Stupid, stupid girl.
As she laid there in the cold, damp grass of the thicket, she cringed in pain as his knee drove down into her stomach. She wanted to throw up and beg him to stop, but she was not at that point yet. Was she mad? It was certainly possible. Kicking her lips, Hallie bit back a groan of pain and the tears that threatened to spill over onto her cheeks, and looked at Aedan with all the intensity she had left in her.
"What is yours here, Aedan?" She managed to breathe out, her voice wavering and shakey. "Because I don't see anything that belongs to you. I certainly do not."
What a foolish, foolish thing to do! Why was she putting herself in such danger? She saw the seriousness in his eyes and witnessed his wand being pressed against her...and yet, she was ridiculous enough to question him further. Her gaze shifted slightly; away from him, and towards a nearby tree.

Here he was, ready to forgive her, ready to lavish her with kisses and sweet words, ready to walk her back to her dorm and help her with her homework ... but she just. Wouldn't. QUIT!
BITCH!
"Oh, no? You don't?"
Still speaking in that same soft tone, but increasing the pressure on her stomach, Aedan reached out with his right hand and rested the palm against Hallie's cheek. "Hallie, Hallie, Hallie," he murmured, just before turning the hand on her cheek into a vicious slap that threw her head to the side. "Why won't you just apologize? Don't you want us to be happy together?"
Although, he couldn't deny that he took a certain pleasure in having to work so hard. The power, the control ... all his. She could talk a big game, but who was really in charge in this situation? Aedan was. Just as it always should be.
After all, winning tastes better when you have to work for it.
"You see, darling," he continued, tossing her wand several feet away so that she couldn't reach it, "I would argue that, since you moaned for me like a bitch in heat, you do belong to me. Oh, and you know I can be sweet, don't you?" With a quick swivel and a tug, Aedan got himself between her knees, careful to dodge any attempted kicks. Then he proceeded to place kisses all over the cheek he had slapped, running his fingers through her hair but still holding his wand at the ready.
His free hand made its way downward to creep under her skirt.
"Do I really have to remind you how very much you belong to me?"

No, no, no, no, no.
How could she even allow herself to be in this situation? Why couldn't she just be the good little daughter she had always forced herself to be at home and simply apologize for being so foolish? Clearly, Aedan was at the point where he was close to boiling over the edge. Didn't she already realize the danger he was to her?
White hot head exploded into her face as her head reeled to the side from the blow she had faced, and for a moment, Hallie could barely process what exactly had just happened to her. His words were sharp, possessive, and threatening, and every inch of her was screaming to surrender and submit. Her face grew red with shame as she was forced to listen to his subtle taunts, and she shut her eyes as his mouth brushed against her heated, red-toned cheek.
What was she going to do? His intentions were clear, that much was obvious. She cringed thinking about what exactly was going through his mind, and she squirmed underneath him, attempting to wriggle loose, even if it was just an inch or so. As his hand suddenly dipped lower down into her skirt however, she immediately panicked, and out of a notion of self defense, she raised a hand to slap him against his own cheek.
It took her a moment to realize what exactly she had done. Her hand fell back against the ground, and she blinked through wet eyes, realizing that she had, indeed, hit him.
"I'm sorry," she blurted out without hesitation. "I'm sorry," her head turned from side to side. "I didn't mean to."

Ugh. This was just like the first night again. She stoked his lust, then threw up a road block. What an inconvenient time for her to relent.
Ah, well. He could sate his lusts elsewhere. The more important thing, the thing that would keep him on the road to achieving his ultimate plan, was to show what would happen when she displayed proper humility. And, yes, she'd slapped him, which was annoying though not painful ... but then she'd said those magic little words he'd been waiting to hear the entire time.
His expression softened as he looked at her, removing his hand from her skirt and then smoothing it down. "Now, see, that wasn't so hard, was it? That was all you needed to say, all along." He slipped his wand into his jacket pocket, then cupped her face with his palms, using his thumbs to wipe away the tears that had escaped her brimming eyes. "So you'll be sweet and loving again? You won't make me angry? No more ... outbursts? Shhh, love ... it's all right now."
He wasn't going to let her up just yet, not until she confirmed that she was sorry for more than just the slap, but he could certainly go back to being sweet "Samuel" now. He placed a long, tender kiss on her forehead, then searched her eyes with his own.

Tears spilled over onto her cheeks as she awaited some kind of reaction out of him. In her gut, she began to expect the worst because of what she had done. She had been rash and foolish enough to strike him in a manner that was defensive; at least, that was her intentions. She had learned a bit of self-defense from years earlier, but it had never occurred to her that she would really need to use it, especially on the boy who was supposed to do everything he could to protect her.
Her eyes shut once more as she felt his fingers quickly wipe off the hot tears from her cheeks before placing a long, torturous kiss on her forehead. Hallie wanted to continue to cry...hell, she wanted to scream. She wanted her scream to echo off the high trees of the thicket so that anyone with ears could hear her and then come to find her. If that didn't work, then once she left here, she old go straight to the Headmaster to tell him of what had occured. Sure, he was terrifying in his own way, but surely Headmaster Enzo would be concerned about a possible rape being committed by one of the students of the school?
After a moment's hesitation, she composed herself, then opened her eyes and met Aedan's own. An apologetic smile spread across her face as she opened her mouth to speak quietly. "Forgive me," her voice cracked. "I have been acting inappropriately. I will try my hardest to be the girlfriend that you desire."

"Oh, darling," Aedan breathed, still stroking her face tenderly. "Of course you're forgiven. Come on, now. Let's go back to school."
He finally lifted his weight off of her, standing up and reaching for her hand to pull her to her feet. When he'd gotten her standing up again, Aedan pulled his wand out of his pocket and murmured a soothing spell, aiming it at her cheek to remove the livid red mark his hand had left there. He aimed it at her wrists and stomach, too, in order to ward off the bruises that would certainly have formed there otherwise.
Perfect.
Walking in a small circle around Hallie, he set about gently removing the plants from her hair and brushing the dirt from her clothes. Soon enough, she looked completely presentable, and he placed a soft kiss on her lips, then offered an apologetic smile. With a murmured spell, he conjured up another white rose, de-thorned and perfect, and held it out to her.
