Aedan couldn't muster a smile for Hallie, but he was glad that she had come running to his side. "Thank you," he bit out, his voice steely. "Stay beside me. It is unsafe. We must get her to the hospital wing."
He could tell her his real name after he got Maureen settled and cared for. Right now, his cousin was his top priority. He clenched his jaw, fighting against the rage that was threatening to spill out and get him killed.
"She needs medical attention," he snapped as he entered the hospital wing and laid Maureen gently on the first empty bed. "Now. I do not know exactly what has been done to her."
Looking down at his cousin, Aedan saw the blood leaking through the sleeve of her shirt. Gently, he pulled it back: ANTONUCCHI.
"I am going to fucking kill them all," he growled between his teeth.

Hallie practically had to jog in order to keep up with Samuel, who was still paces ahead of her as they both strided down the main corridor towards the hospital wing. Her head was dancing with all kinds of dark images and thoughts thatshe could not simply mentally erase. Why the hell would the Headmaster and the Holland professors ever willingly hurt their own student? She had heard briefly about Maureen being a part of a rival family, but the rest of it had fallen on deaf ears in the middle of all the chaos. She worried for her friends...Mary, Annabel, and Cordelia...what was going to happen to them? Would anything happen to them?
Then her mind quickly jumped to Theo, her only literal family at the Academy. He was her first cousin, as their fathers were brothers, and although they hadn't seen each other much as children, their bond had grown over the years at the Academy. She loved him like a dear brother, and the thought of anything ever happening him made her stomach ache with a numbing nausea. A part of her wanted to turn on her heel and leave Samuel then to go find him, but she didn't, instead vowing to go find him as soon as she could. Right now, both Samuel and dear Maureen needed her.
As they settled her into a clean, cool bed, Hallie quickly ushered to the side of the bed and situated Maureen carefully, moving strands of hair from her eyes and placing a cool cloth on her forehead. Her blue eyes ran over the girl in a sickening horror, and Hallie felt bile raise in her throat. The poor girl had cuts and brushes all over her dainty, frail body, and it was only then she she noticed the massive, bloody engraving into her arm. Her eyes widened at the the sight, and a shiver slid down her spine as she heard Samuel's promise of revenge.
"Sam," she swallowed slowly, looking up at him from her spot near the bed, "Why did they do this? How could they do this?"

He found himself kneeling at the side of the bed, elbows pressing against the mattress, face buried in his hands. He had not expected this, this ... atrocity.
He would fiddle while he watched the world burn.
Aedan drew in a deep breath before lifting his gaze to Hallie's. "I did not want you to find out this way," he admitted - possibly the most honest thing he had ever said to her. "My name is not, and has never been, Samuel. It is Aedan O'Brien, and this is my cousin. Enzo Antonucchi ... well, let us just say that his family has a deep, long-abiding hatred toward mine. I do not know what precipitated this particular attack, but I guarantee you that I will find out and I will take my revenge.
"My life, as you can see, is far more ... colorful ... than you may have imagined."
And why the fuck wasn't his cousin being attended to yet? Suddenly, he snapped, turning away from Hallie to yell at the medical personnel. "DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL BRING THE WRATH OF THE O'BRIEN FAMILY DOWN ON YOU ALL IF YOU DON'T FUCKING CARE FOR MY COUSIN RIGHT THE FUCK NOW?"

Hallie continued to cater to Maureen as best as she could, which, to her annoyance, wasn't the best, given the tools she had around her. Still though, she managed to wrap her butchered arm in gauze and began to press into the wound firmly; watching as the white, fluffy material of the bandage began to soak with the red of her blood. With a frustrated sigh, Hallie leaned upright and pulled away for a second to tie her hair up onto a loose, swinging ponytail, and it was then that Samuel had decided to lay a kind of bomb on her.
As he explained herself, Hallie felt herself grow extremely conflicted, confused, and angry. It wasn't often she found herself to feel mad, but she couldn't stop the negative feelings from swelling in her belly. So, all this time, he had been pretending to be someone else? For what reason? Was he not who he claimed to be? Was he someone completely different?
She then scowled, dropping her hands into her lap, keeping her hardening eyes on Maureen's placid, peaceful expression. "So, you're a liar, then?" She asked the boy across from her sternly. "Why did you do it?"
Before she could even receive any kind of response, Aedan's voice erupted in a newfound fury, and she was so startled by it, she quickly backed up in her chair, giving him the same stern, yet surprised look.
"Calm down!" She said to him, motioning to his cousin. "You will wake her up! Just wait a second," Hallie motioned around them, "they're doing the best they can!"

So, four years of war, thousands of lives lost, a life of hell, and he returned to this. A hell in the place he had always felt the safest. Jackson Reed was somber on this day, for the first time in so many years, Jackson Reed, the once proud and skilled fighter walked solemnly through the halls carrying the body of the murdered professor in his arms. The man had stood up for a girl that Jackson knew all too well, but had never met. He ignored the looks from the people he passed, the groundskeeper dressed in the sky lue unform that he loved, and a long black overcoat kept his eyes straight and his foot steps measured. Polished black boots echoed with every step he took, as he marched to the hospital wing. How many times had he made this walk, in the blood and mud of the trenches. From Vimy ridge, to Passchendale, Jackson had carried the bodies of great men, and now he bore the body of one more. When he reached the the infirmary he kicked the doors open, and walked in. The aids, and professors there watched him in silence, as he carried the man to a vacant bed, one located next to her.
With the utmost respect, Jackson laid Gawain on the bed, and folded his arms over his chest, and placed the wand of the noble professor in his hands. Stepping back Jackson bowed his head in respect, then looked over at the aid that had followed him. "Pre-" he swallowed, and touched the massive that covered his throat, "Preserve this mans body... Do not let it go to rot..." Jackson's voice was hoarse and quiet. After the aid had left, he turned and crouched next to the body of the unconscious girl. She was older, and far more beautiful, but Jackson would recognize the face of the girl that his best friend had always talked about. Indeed the headmaster had even called her an O'Brien.
Jackson looked over at the boy, and the girl next to her bed. Watching as the boy exploded, he grinned, there was the O'Brien rage, Jackson had witnessed it all too many times. Hell it was that rage that had saved his life. Jackson shook his head and swallowed before he spoke, "He is going to come for her, when he finds out... You wont want to stop him, Samuel..." He coughed as he finished, and rubbed his throat, before looking back at the girl. There would be the Devil to pay for this, and unfortunately for this school, something far more terrifying than the Devil would be in its halls. "Nothing will stop him from getting to her..." another cough, and he swallowed and shook his head.
"Nothing ever has..."

Hallie called him a liar, and Aedan snapped his head around to glare at her. "Don't be facile," he hissed. "Don't you see what they did to her the moment they found out that she was an O'Brien? What do you think they would have done to me, as a child and the fucking male heir? Don't make this about you, Hallie. It isn't. Be pleasant or keep your mouth shut. I have no patience right now."
At that point, some of the medical employees finally made their way over to begin their work on Maureen's injuries. Aedan stepped away, crossing his arms and glaring at the floor. Someone he didn't know personally, but who he thought he recognized as the school's groundskeeper, entered carrying Professor Reid's body. Aedan bowed his head respectfully as he passed. Professor Reid had served the family well, and died in their defense.
Then ... what the hell was the groundskeeper talking about? Brow furrowed, he tossed a glare at Jackson. "I certainly hope you are speaking of her brother. Otherwise, I will be prepared to defend my cousin."

Something about the way he pin-pointed her with a vicious, angry glare set fear into her stomach, but she held her ground and simply scoffed loudly at his demands, deciding not to anything else, but instead, moving back over to Maureen. The poor girl was still rendered unconscious, and she sighed, avoiding Aedan and his gaze completely while taking one of Maureen's hands in her own.
She didn't deserve this. Any of this. She hadn't particularly knew Maureen all too well throughout her years at the Academy, but regardless of their relationship, Hallie knew her well enough to know how good of a person she was. The thought of her suffering at the hands of their own superiors brought sickeness to her stomach.
"Nothing is going to stop him from getting to her..."
Hallie's neck snapped back up to meet the gaze of a tall, rather mysterious looking man, and she squeezed Maureen's hand even tighter in a protective manner. "Who are you?" She asked him, raising a sculpted brow at the stranger.

Jackson just stayed where he was, crouched next to the girl that his best friend had always talked about. Listening to Aedann rant, Jackson smirked and shook his head. The poor girl was the light of Fin's life, and too see her like this, it made a cold dread creep into the bottom of his gut. Jackson had seen Fin in battle, protecting injured men like they were his own brothers. The fact that this was Fin's flesh and blood sister laying before him, Jackson pitied however had done this. Gently he brushed the hair from her face, and smiled, "Don't worry... he'll come for you. Fin would never forget you." Jackson stood, and swallowed, rubbing at his throat when he did, god it still hurt, and his lungs still burnt.
Aedans words brought Jackson out of his memories, and the usual smirk crept to his face. "No, I mean jolly St. Nick...." he took a deep breath, "Yes her brother. Who else would I mean?" Jackson turned and looked back at Maureen, his eyes watering slightly at seeing her in such way. Even in war there had been rules to live by, and not harming children was one of them. Jackson sighed. "Mark my words... When Sergeant Finley O'Brien finds out... not even hell itself will stop him." Jackson took several deep breaths, and cast a look at the girl.
"Jackson Reed, I went to cascade, was quite the star in my DADA class. Then I started getting really sick, ten I left to join the war." Taking a heavy breath, he opened the collar of his vest and shirt. Pointing at the mass of scarred flesh that covered most of his neck, and throat Jackson winked at Hallie. "Got this in Passchendale, and her brother dragged me back to our lines. I owe Fin my life."

Suddenly, Maureen screamed and her eyes snapped open. "Help!" she shrieked. "Please help me!"
Aedan turned from shaking hands with some ... soldierish-looking man ... and knelt at the side of the bed. "Maureen ... Maureen ... ssshhh, you're all right. You're in the hospital wing."
Her eyes darted back and forth between her cousin, and the red-headed girl, and the soldier man, and she started to shake her head frantically. "No, no, we can't be here, we have to leave school, they're Antonucchis, they're all Antonucchis! They want to kill us, I swear, they want to kill us, please ... we have to leave the school! We need Fin. I need Fin. Get Fin, please?"
With that, Aedan was up and scrawling a letter on a piece of parchment. The owl flew off, and then Aedan returned to stand at his cousin's bedside.
Maureen was sobbing, her words incomprehensible.

Fin was in a daze, his sister was in the infirmary, she was hurt, and the message didn’t say how badly, or what had happened. He stumbled through the corridors of the once familiar school, everything around him moving at a fraction of the normal speed. He needed to reach her, to be there for his sister, to make sure she was okay. She was his Angel, his light in the dark, and she needed him now. She had always been there when he was overseas.
Dear Fin, Mommy got mad at me today because I fell in the mud wearing my new white dress ...
The words he had read so many times, were burning in his mind.
Dear Fin, I'm so nervous about starting school in September …
He could feel the stirring of shadows in the back of his mind. Thoughts of what Fin had been, and what he could become again. The things he had done, the things he could do now. THey started creeping out of hiding, back into Fin’s mind and heart. Fin’s vision was turning red as he ran, pushing people aside, knocking them over. Until he reached the doors to the infirmary. He remembered these doors, how many times had he gone through these for trying to use a spell he wasn’t ready for. Those white walls, and neat orderly beds. His hands pressed against the wood, and he pushed, the door banging open as he came through therm.
“Sir, you can’t be in h-” Fin’s hands curled around the man's shirt, and through him to the side. Fin’s long stride carried him towards the bed. He could see her hair, her red hair. Those curls that he remembered so well.
“Stop! You cant just barge in here!” Fin punched the person hard in the jaw, then he felt himself slowing. He could almost reach here, but the were stopping him. He continued to move forward, struggling as the staff pulled their wands forth, trying to stop him from reaching her.
Dear Fin, I know Mom misses you because she cries a lot …
He was reaching for her, he could almost touch the bed. He could almost reach his sister. His eyes began to water, he could feel her pain as he fell to his knees, stretching for his sister, he could see er hand showing from under the blankets. Fin’s mouth opened, but there was no words he could form that could reveal his pain. Nothing but a guttural yell, a pained cry as if an animal was dying. He could hear yelling, felt the pressure on his body was released, and he crawled forward, on his knees, his cap off as he cried and screamed.
Someones arms wrapped around his shoulders, and helped him to his feet, to the edge of his sister's bed. Fin collapsed again. His hand curled around hers, as his other one brushed hair from her face. “I’m here… I’m here… I’m here…” He whimpered placing a soft kissing his sister on the forehead, and gently caressing her hair. "I'm here... I'm so sorry...""

Thank God, it was him. His voice and his face, his frantic yelling, his fist crunching against the face of the orderly who got in his way. The unfamiliar soldier-man caught Fin by the shoulders, blocked him from the staff members who were trying to keep him from her.
All right, the soldier-man was good. She liked him.
"Fin!" She squeezed his hand, then shrieked in pain and jerked hers away. It was difficult to understand what she was seeing: instead of fingernails, she had bloody trenches. Nerve endings that had never been exposed before rebelled against the open air, the pressure. Oh, yes ... she remembered ... Professor Holland ... not-Holland ... "ABSCINDO NUMEROSA!"
"He ... he ... they ... oh, God ... "
Suddenly she was retching over the side of the bed, narrowly missing Fin's clothing. Apples ... chunks of apples ... they were oddly fascinating. God, her legs, something was terribly wrong with her legs ...
Maureen pressed her face against Fin's hand, crying into it. "Why?" she murmured brokenly. "Why did they do this to me? What did I do? Fin ... Fin ... please don't leave me ... "

Post by Heath Mulligan on Jun 30, 2015 9:48:02 GMT -5
It had been late in the night when he received word of what had happened at the Academy, but the second he heard the event concerned his own family, Heath knew that he wouldn't find sleep or relaxation on that night. How could he, when his own blood was in peril? Joey had came to his room in the early hours of the morning and had told him of the attack on Maureen, and hearing such things made his blood instantly boil. The only people he knew that could be guilty of such a crime was any member of the Antonucchi family. They were a disgusting, cruel family that showed no mercy for anyone, so why did it make sense for him or anyone in his family to show mercy to them? The point was, was that they wouldn't. No matter how badly Maureen had had it, Heath would make sure that the Antonucchi fami, you would suffer ten times harder. An eye for an fucking eye; that's the way Heath saw things.
As his dress shoes clicked against the hard floor of the Academy, Heath prepared himself for the sight of his little cousin, which he was sure would be horrendous. Despite Joey's attempts of tagging along with him, Heath had refused. The last thing he wanted was to bring any attention to himself. No...this was about Maureen now. It was all about her and her safety. After he knew she was in good hands, then that was the time he would scheme and plan with his own family.
With a cold, penetrable glare towards one of the nurses, Heath continued through the doors of the infirmary, where his eyes immediately set on an occupied bed twenty feet ahead of him. Swallowing hard, his feet finally came to a stop at the foot of the bed, and he took in the sight of his battered, bruised little cousin. She looked horrible, and anger immediately filled his gut; sending his nerves to become alive like electrical wires. "Hang in there, Maury," his voice broke as he leaned down to gently pat on her leg. "We're all here for you."
With that, his gaze landed on a broken Fin, who was too busy comforting his sister to notice him. He sighed again before crossing his arms over his chest, turning to nod curtly towards both Jackson and Aedan. It was then that he noticed the girl on the other side of Maureen's bed. Her hair was brilliantly red and her face held the same sorrow that matched their own. Heath frowned then motioned to her. "Who is this?" He asked, looking around to the others. "Why is she here?"

Despite wanting to focus on what Aedan had said to her only moments ago, Hallie reminded herself not to be selfish, and instead, continue to focus on the battered and injured girl before her. Her eyes gazed over the small lacerations across her face and arms, and with a long, tired sigh, Hallie moved a few strands of red hair from Maureen's still face. It was then that she wished she could have remembered the healing spells her father had taught her years earlier, but the simple fact was that she couldn't. She couldn't help her fellow student magically, but she could still help her in other ways.
As she stood to her feet and pushed back the chair she had been sitting in, that was in a furious-looking younger man barged through the doors and immediately made a beeline for Maureen, who was now very much conscious and aware of everyone around her. She shot the younger girl a soft, comforting smile, then stepped back, allowing the man whim she assumed was Maureen's brother to have some space with her.
Her backside eventually met up with a window, and as she watched the unfolding scene between her, the feelings between Maureen and her brother evoked the same need from earlier within Hallie to try and go find Theo, just to make sure he was alright. Every second she didn't know made her grow with worry..and really, what was her purpose here? This family obviously did not need her help anymore.
As she slowly creeper towards the side of the room, a bigger, bulkier man entered, and once he addressed her with questions and a piercing stare, she stopped in her tracks and opened her mouth to speak. "I just..." Hallie paused to lick her lips, "I just wanted to help out as much as I could."

Once Fin arrived, Aedan backed away from Maureen's bed. His two cousins were extraordinarily close; Aedan had never been so close with his sisters. Something in his psychological makeup just didn't allow for it. He had protective feelings for them, of course, but not of the type that Fin had for Maureen. No one would ever have used the word "sweet" to describe Aedan's demeanor toward his sisters.
He was fine with that. He had felt awkward attempting to comfort his cousin, anyway. It was a relief that Fin had arrived.
The next O'Brien to show up was Heath, who bluntly pointed out that Hallie was unfamiliar and perhaps did not belong. "Heath," Aedan said, grabbing Hallie's hand to keep her from fleeing the hospital wing, "this is my girlfriend, Hallie. She was present when Maureen was ... returned to us. Hallie, this is Heath Mulligan. He is someone you can trust."

Standing next to the bed, Jackson looked over at the body of Professor Reid and shook his head. "A waste of a good man..." Jackson had seen war, he had killed, and watched as men were killed, he was used to it. This however had been different, this man he had stood up for the students, and had gotten slaughtered without ever having the chance to fight back. It was no way for a man like the Professor to die, and Jackson felt sorry for the poor bastard. A good funeral, that's what he had earned, a nice place to be laid to rest, perhaps over looking a wooded valley, at least that was how Jackson would have wanted to be buried.
When Maureen screamed out, Jackson nearly jumped out of his own skin. He had heard men scream in pain as they died, beg for their mothers or wives, plea with God to not let them die. But the sheer terror and pain in this young girls voice was unearthly. Jackson had been the one the war had never affected, as men had fallen apart, Jackson had been the one to pick them back up. He was always laughing, even when running from gunfire, trying to tell some story about how being chased by a girls father was far worse. This though, this chilled him to the very core of his being.
When Fin burst into the hospital wing, Jackson turned and couldn't surpress a grin. Watching the two or lies move to stop him, Jackson pointed. "Oh this will be good..." and sure enough, Finley did not disappoint, the first one was thrown out of the way, the second crumpled to the ground clutching his jaw. There was the fighter Jackson had known so well. It wasnt until the other orderlies went to use magic to restrain the raging brother, that Jackson intervened.
"Stop! He's her brother, let him go, for the love of all that is good, let him go to her!" The orderlies, looked shocked and they released Fin, the sudden lack of restraint dropped him to the ground, and Jackson was at his side. Picking Fin up, Jackson helped his friend, his brother, to Maureens side, and stepped back.
"A brothers love knows no bounds..."
