It was right at six o'clock when Nixie arrived in front of the wand shop, having apparated into the alley next to it. Sure, the entire district was magical, but she just wasn't used to being able to be so open with her powers and took the safe route by keeping her apparation hidden. She checked all corners as she exited the alleyway, making sure no one could "get the jump on her." Such a paranoid woman after the war, and she found herself jumping at the sound of a car down the street roaring to life. Even the people around her were painfully loud, and the sounds of crying children and extreme laughter made her uneasy as she stepped in front of the wand shop to await her companion.
This was supposed to be a good thing, so why was she so incredibly nervous and freaked out about everything in sight? She was finally getting a chance to live her own life as opposed to the nightmares she was forced into in previous years, but something in her just wouldn't let all of that go. Was it the guilt that she felt over the things she had done? That definitely had to play a huge part in it, she was sure, but there was something else too. Perhaps it was the fact that she was concealing her alias from those around her. Those she was letting into her life had no idea of the person she had been in the war, and maybe that bothered her. She had always been such an honest person, so for her to be keeping such a large lie from the people she was beginning to consider her "friends" just didn't sit right with her.
She just had to focus on the task at hand. River said that he would help her by accompanying her to the shops in order for her to practice her communication with other people. He was an intelligent man, so she was sure his methods would prove successful.
